I suggest you take advice from the British council for docked breeds. Not some of the clowns on here.

It's legal at any age, although it's typically done when the pup is 3-5 days old....there is no anesthesia involved at this age and they get a few sutures....I personally don't like to assist with these.
However, when they are any older is then becomes a tail amputation and is much more painful and complicated to do.
Most Vet's will not do this after 3-5 days old unless there is something wrong with the tail. But yes, it is legal.

That depends on where you live.
It is legal in the US, varies between Europena countries etc.
In the UK the new Animal Welfare Act bans cosmetic docking. It may only be carried out (by a vet) on "working dogs".
There is a list of breeds that may be considered working dogs, but you still need to prove the puppy is likely to actually work, e.g. it should have working parents, etc.
To prevent breeders claiming all their pups are working dogs, it is no longer legal to show a docked dog. So pet/show breeders will keep tails intact otherwise they can't show.

In the UK it is not illegal as such but certainly frowned upon.
The RVCS will NOT back the vet if it goes wrong or a complaint is made.
The only way to dock a pups tail, with the RVCS backing, is if the owners can prove they will be going to working homes.
which necessitate having a docked tail.
Generally they have to show proof of a gun license or something similar, the paperwork is lengthy and to be quite honest not easy to understand!
The upshot is unless a dog is going to be used to work they will not be docked.
Under no circumstances should a vet dock a tail purely for cosmetic purposes or because the breed standard says they should be docked!

No it is illegal in the UK... thank goodness! I have Cockers and the granny is docked. (NOT my choice!) I have never docked the tails and I think Cocker tails are wonderful! A boxer with a tail looks amazing.
Enjoy your dog as he was intended to be. Waggy!

I think it is legal only for breeds that are used in the field.ie spaniels etc etc.Certainly not boxers.
Some vets are licensed still to do it i think,
i wouldn't be buying a docked dog as the breeders are breaking the law.

It depends on where you are located. I'm in Chicago. Some vets still dock tails and crop ears. Others don't.
My dogs are 3 and 6 years old and both have cropped ears and tails.

Depends where you are located. And even in some areas where it is legal, some vets will not do it. Tail docking is usually done when they are very young pups.

no vet will dock your boxers tail, it is illegal. my boxer boy is five years old, and was docked with the dockbreed society, with experienced people also breeders of show dogs, I wish he had his tail, as some dogs dont like boxers because they cant read there greeting(like waving your hand ) with tail wagging, although they look good without one, its a shame for them. inexperienced docking also causes deformity, infection and sometimes death through infection.
