Faberge did make some pretty amazing eggs but since nobody will get to see this one, in a way, who cares?
Your question is very interesting in that it brings up two problems with rich people.
1/ How much fu**ing money do you really need to be happy? Obviously, it is never enough if you have to spend $18.5 m on an egg in search of happiness.
2/ Too many art works which I would love to see are in private hands to be seen only by a few chosen ones if they're not locked up in security storage for fear of them being stolen.
Absolutely ridiculous.

If a Fabergé Egg is going for $18.5 million; I'm willing to sell a pair of scrambled eggs for $19 million dollars. I'm sure somewhere, someone with way too much money would be willing to buy them and display them.

I work for a guy who can afford that egg. He created a business from the ground up (against all odds) that now employs thousands of people, does a lot of good, and he gives probably 80% of his earnings to charity.
So- be careful who you judge. Having money isn't a bad thing. It's how you made it and what you do with it that's important.
that said- who the heck needs an $18.5M egg? Perhaps the person who sold the egg will do something wonderful and meaningful with that money.

Ye-GADS! That is a grotesque waste of money. Why don't they just flush it down the toilet? They say the rich work harder than anyone else...if that were true, when did they get the time to flaunt their riches this way?

If you paid 18.5 mil for an egg, the yoke is on you.

My local greasy spoon charges somewhere near that, but they throw in a couple of sausages and a cup of coffee to lessen the blow.

I couldn't believe that news this AM when I read it. Pretty sad that an object can command that kind of money.
We are shallow aren't we?
I got outbid at about $16m - my wife isn't gonna be happy - she REALLY wanted that egg!

I saw the headline and couldn't even read the story I was thoroughly disgusted....I could just picture the bidder raising his bid stick calmly to the sound of the auctioneer saying "$18.5 million....anyone?" while trying to stifle a yawn.
I hope they gave him a fake one like in Oceans Twelve
