She always needs special attention (thinks she is very up there and she is not). Always wants things done different ways to accommodate HER! Just a huge complainer! I've been patient with her for the past two years, but she is crossing the line and i quite frankly want to ask her what's her problem with me?

She is a lot older than me. She used to be reporting to the president and now they hired a new boss that she reports to. I still report to the same person I always reported to and most of the upper management likes me. They have even expressed it numerous times in several company meetings.

What is her deal? Is he fearful of loosing her job/jealous? How do I deal with her? Is this common...

No we are not only ones in the office. I was recently put in charge of HR functions so I need to work with her Department when they are hiring and such and thats when I noticed her behavior to get even worse.

I would say it happens when people are feeling unsatisfied with their job. When I was just starting out in business consulting, my team put me in charge on a data entry employee like this, just to get her out of their hair! I guess since I was a rookie, they saw it as me paying my dues. After that, she seemed even more angry because a younger less experienced person was supervising her.

I think the only thing to do is speak simply and softly. Make it clear what the job is, and that you have no ability to change it. And smile. If she hates the job enough, she'll quit or get fired.

I've been in your shoes but thank god she got laid off...Permanently. I think in your position its a little bit of jealousy and wanting to be the centre of attention. Are you the only 2 girls in the that office? If so that would say it all. She probably feels a bit threatened by you. Possibly you have better ideas, or processes to get stuff done. Of course she can't give into you. Your younger. How would that look to everyone. I would try to deal with her a little bit longer. In my dealings I find people like that usually hang themselves. It may make things worse to start something with her. Just do your job to the best of your ability and if you want to make changes within your job function talk directly to your boss. People can't have things THEIR WAY all the time. Best of luck !

The next time that upper management expresses their like for you ask if that means you will be getting a promotion.

As for Ms. Complainer, ask her to lunch with you. Talk to her about how she likes working there. Tell her that there is a person at work that makes it hard for you to enjoy working there. Then tell her what the person is doing.

Be friendly or at least courteous. I am surprised that you have not brought up this problem with your superiors.

Is this common? Sure is! Pretty much everyone who works anywhere with more than 2 people, and some where there are only 2, runs across a difficult coworker at some point.

Don't bother at all. in official jobs normally we have to face such a people. i suggest u that u should adopt smile policy for all ur collegues. if someone is doing wrong, u should not ansewer in wrong manner. u should ignore his/her bad behaviour, one day he/she will feel his/herself guilty. so be patient.
