In this very moment, there is no birth or death. There is just -- this!
Zen practice cultivates "just now" mind, a mind that stays fully present in each moment as it unfolds.
Birth happened in some previous moment -- what relevance does it have to this moment? Death will happen in some future moment -- what relevance does it have to this moment?
There is only *this* moment -- everything else is just a fantasy. This might sound like fancy talk, but when we practice Zen, we begin to discover that it's just a fact.
Fear is one of many human emotions. It comes and goes, just as love, anger, desire and all emotions come and go. If we watch our feeling states closely, we see that they constantly change -- they are never the same.
A great Zen master once said, "Everything always changes." If you deeply understand this, it will answer your questions about birth, death, fear, and all human life.

just as every perception is an illusion, the idea that we are created (an idea which we create) and the idea that we end (also an idea which we create) are just as illusory as the idea that a shadow has substance. its not an easy idea to grasp, because we are impulsed to try and understand our existence by putting meanings to it and creating theories and ideas about why and how. however, all these ideas are just mental constructs and the true nature of Zen cannot be created in the mind.
at least this is my current attempt to understand it... still working on it though.
Fear is a lack of understanding born of attachment. that is all.

You are the Unborn...the birth and the death of the body - life, is like a dream.
What is there to fear?

It is basically stating that worrying about death is the same as worrying about birth. Both are irrelevant as we have no control over them.
Kinda makes sense.
