I have read a few posts on this and never saw a definite answer. I cannot walk for more than a block nor can I run - bad back. I am doing Atkins and have lost 40 pounds. I now have much belly fat and need a specific exercise that I can do that will not affect my back.

I am 64 years old and it is hard to lose this weight that I gained because of Diabetes type 2. I should say I gained weight and "then" got Diabetes.

I just need a couple exercises for this problem alone. By the way, I still have 30 pounds to lose and guess where most of it is.

Congratulations on your weight loss! It can be a real struggle, especially the abdominal fat. I see you have received lots of great suggestions for exercises. I also noticed you mentioned you still have more weight to lose. There is a natural product that lowers your blood sugar so you can successfully control Type 2 Diabetes and lose weight. I have found their products really work! Lowering my blood sugar has helped me keep my blood pressure, which was a problem, under control without medication and lose weight too. The manufacturer guarantees the product to be successful and their are no side effects. The product is called Diamaxol and I found out about it at www.after40weightloss.com

belly fat doesn't go away with exercise. All you can do is strengthen the muscles under the fat. To remove fat you need to keep eating less flour and sugar products and keep your calories below 2000 a day. What often happens with people who have been heavy for a long time is the skin stretches. Once the weight is lost, especially quickly, the skin will not tighten up right away or sometimes at all. You may need plastic surgery to remove excess skin after you are at your goal weight.

If the excess skin is not that bad just live with it. I had a friend who lost over 100 lbs and had to have the skin removed because it would never shrink back to where it was.

Sounds like this is something only plastic surgery and liposuction will take care of. You will never be able to lose it completely.
Since you have done the Atkins diet, that is aimed at targeting belly fat and diabetic and pre-diabetic conditions.
I would suggest trying to get hold of an Ab Lounge exercise chair. You sit fully supported-neck, legs, back, etc.. But since you've lost so much weight, the remaining fat can only be lost thru surgery.

there is no way to spot-reduce fat. even if there were, all the ab exercises(crunches and the like) and machines WILL affect your back. you need a balanced regiment of training that involves weights, cardio, and resistance. you need to go do your doctor and get a regime that works for you, and you will never lose that belly fat without strengthening your back.

btw, yoga is GREAT for your back. my Y has a class called Gentle Yoga, and has another general class that JUST strengthens your back. look for a class like that, but only after going to your doctor. you don't want to hurt yourself.

Here is an idea that most diets seem to brush by. Eat less food. Do not eat more than your own body's metabolism can burn off. Just a thought, but it seems like a logical place to start. I do not mean to imply that exercise is not good. It can not hurt to exercise, and I not trying to make it sound like eating less is easy. Trust me my favorite hobby is eating good food. There is a lot of will power involved in what ever road you take in dealing with this issue. Good luck in achieving your goal with whatever path you choose to do so. :)

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!

This is going to saound funny in a way but I swear by Richard Simmons. He may be the fruitiest man alive but this man knows how to work it out. I have been doing his exersice for the last 6 nobths, I have lost 50lbs and have no lose skin anywhere. He has one out called Disco Sweat and there is a fat burning on that you need a retention band for, it works very very well.

Honestly the best work out for loosing weight is running because it works out your whole body and crunches/sit ups only pack more onto your belly because they develop muscle under the fat. Running works out your back, your arms, your abs, your calves, quads, and the whole shebang while also reducing weight.

Eat healthy, Drink plenty of water, and RUN like hell.

i think that you should try push ups, any kind of push ups would do but the one holdin your neck and making your nose touch your knees is better! u should at first lay down and put your feet a bit near your butt, and then hold your neck, that's what usually people hold but i recomend that you hold your ears and then make your nose touch your knees withou using your hand or anything! kind of difficult for first time but you'll get use to it, 30 push ups a day would do! best of luck
