It's a possibility. There is a theory that the snake in the Garden of Eden was God, and that people followed the Devil who was named Yahweh. The Snake wanted people to eat from the fruit of Knowledge and from the Tree of Life, but Yahweh stopped them from eating of the tree of life, therefore causing suffering and death.

Having asked for help with a problem only a higher power could resolve, I have been answered. I believe in my God, he has answered my prayers and I hold him up for prayer and worship often. I have found one of the greatest things in life is to ask and receive help from God. Try this if you become troubled and find out if it works for you.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

There are wolves in sheeps clothing all the time. As a pastors daughter I have had run-ins with several people like this that will be your closest friend then be the one that try to spread rumors & many other deceitful things. That is what the spirit of discernment is for is to try to weed out who is what.

This is why religion is so messed up. Myself, I steer completely away from any form of organized religion. It's all scientific. You're born, you live, you die, you rot, you turn to dust - end of story. No old hippie in the sky and no Mr. Pitchfork underground. It's all a myth perpetuated to make us behave, just like when you're a kid and your parents tell you that if you're not good, Santa won't bring you anything. God is like a Santa for adults. White beard and all. Curiously enough, Satan is an anagram of Santa. Oo-ee-oo.

Luke 21:8

8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived : for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.

Read Deuteronomy 20. That's where Holy War (jihad) is explained. You basically kill all the men and older women and "marry" all the virgins of any town that does not worship your god (and only real god) and that refuses to surrender to you unconditionally. If you DON"T do this to unbelievers, god will do to you what he thought to do to the unbelievers. this is in the BIBLE. the part that jews, christians, and muslims have in common. Deuteronomy 20.

Then learn about "pagan" relidions like Hiduism and Bhudism that teach religious tolerance. Then decide!

If you believe these characters exist, there's no reason that couldn't be the case. The Bible and Qu'ran both read like the works of a demon rather than a god.

He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. ...

This bible passage seems to state that religious books are useless and kill like a demon.
