Hi,

I seem to have all the signs - it began with numbness in hands/feet, and has progressed to alternating 'burning' in my feet and legs in a number of weeks - I'm 22, do not have diabetes, and am terrified at the thought of living with this pain. Will it just get worse?

First see a Doc, if he thinks it is peripheral neuropathy he will send you to a Neurologist who will undertake a nerve test and based on those results they will know if your nerves are firing or if you have nerve entrapment. When you are diagnosed then come back and ask the question and I will let you know the answer.

Acupuncture, which involves inserting thin needles into various points on your body, may reduce peripheral neuropathy symptoms.

You need to get a diagnosis for this. Start with you family doctor and then a neurologist. You have no way of knowing if this is some sort of disease process that needs to be managed or some temporary thing that might go away. If it is a disease process of some sort, you will need a physician to guide you through the disease and ways to best manage it so that you can keep the symptoms at bay or under control for as long as possible. You cannot do this yourself.

The problem is actually in your low back where a nerve is compressed and irritated. Consult your doctor for proper care.
