I have had two tubes of unopened toothpaste in my medicine cabinet for about 6 months to a year. I am curious if the ingredients in regular floride toothpaste ever go bad or become unsafe to use after a certain lenght of time.

If you look on the label you will be able to find an expiration date.
I would not be concerned about using it even if the date was 6 months past what is stated. If it has only been on shelf for 6 mths more than likely you still have another year. I just looked at mine and it expires in the end of 2008.

As long as it is unopened it is fine. I buy everything in bulk once a year, and I defiantely have some tubes that sit at least a year. Once they are opened, you should be through it by the end of the month or toss it.

the thing is, with toothpaste is people rub their used brush over the product and the rim of tube. as you can imagine this process can deposite alot of germs onto the tube and potentially, INSIDE the tube, and THAT is why you should discard any unused toothpaste (from tube),,after 6 months time
What we do at our home (to prevent germs from getting on toothpaste tube), is to squeeze a little out (on a clean baby finger), then from the finger, to the brush. WALAH,,,problem solved.

Look on the crimp for an expiration date. It is probably good for a few months after that date.

I'm probably sure that you could use it, but I've been told by my parents that it's probably better and safer to get a new pack.

No, it does not go bad, it just dries out. I spoke with a person that works for colgate about this and she told me it was fine to use , it will just be dry.
