I currently reside on the island of St. Kitts in Eastern Caribbean... Would like to purchase a concealed carry handgun for my personal protection, but I'm having difficulty locating a dealer that can export outside the US. Can anyone help he out on this? I basically need assistance in locating a licensed gun-dealer who can export outside the US.

Unfortunately, there are no gun retailers on the island or on any of the other nearby islands... Though you can easily get an unlicensed illegal firearm, I want to acquire a licensed firearm which will be registered and legal for me to own and carry.

Have already liaised with the local authorities and have been granted the necessary permission and licenses to import and carry a firearm... Just need to locate a dealer from whom I can purchase... Once purchased, just have to arrange shipping, and forward necessary info to the local authorities on the type, model, caliber and ETA on shipment.

Hi Chris H and DJ thanks for the info...

Will check out those two sites...

I actually was able to speak with officer in charge of the police armory here, and what he did advise was that both the army and the police here acquire there firearms direct from the US and British military supply offices. He did direct me to local guy here who imports, but the prices he quoted me were ridiculously expensive, and he really couldn't source what I wanted. that's pretty much why I'm trying on my own now. There are some serious restrictions here on what caliber you can import (as a civilian) here, and the highest caliber being a 9mm, w/ a max 10 round capacity... That's pretty much what I'm trying to get... The best the guy who does import could get me is .38 (which in my opinion, in terms of personal defense just isn't good enough)

9mm and .38 are are about the same in terms of stopping power.I don't know about the bullet laws, but if you get some good hollowpoint .38s then it should suffice.

Try Leroy's Big Valley Guns in Montana. 406-228-4867

The information I found says they charge $75 for the first and $25 for additional.

Looks like what they will be doing is filling in an ATF 'Form 9', I've come across this before with Canadians who have inherited firearms from US relatives and people moving to Canada. See the second link. That company, Gunrunner, may also be able to supply you.

It's funny that the problem is usually perceived as the import, but to do that you have to be able to buy in a foreign country and then get them sent to you. Most dealers in the US just aren't set up for that.

(I hate holding answers, standard weasel words, "first check with local law enforcement". Give me a break! Answer the question or keep quiet!)

You are going to have a difficult time finding a US firearms dealer that has the licenses and expertise to export to the Caribbean.

I would suggest you start by contacting the gun dealers in the Miami area, as they would most helpful in pointing you to the dealers among them that do trade in the islands.

Also, there are certainly merchants that supply the island's police and private security companies, so finding out who they are may prove very helpful. I would start with the government licensing office that issues firearm permits and also the government's "Purchasing" or "Procurement" offices. You may also contact private security firms and ask for their advice, as I'm sure they buy and import firearms regularly.

Find out if the police auction or sell confiscated handguns. I have purchased several guns from 'police auctions'.

Also, while you are making friends at the police and government offices....go ahead and ask about any used firearms that may be for sale.

It may be helpful to find the man responsible for the care of the police's firearms....here in the US that guys is usually called the Armorer. I know the Armorer for one of my local law enforcement agencies and he always has legitimate firearms for sale.

You might have to buy it in St. Kitts. Is there a concealed handgun law in that area??

1st thing that you need to do, is check with your local law enforcement & see, if you can legally carry conceiled, if so, get your permit, then see about getting a gun
