I'm in my first semester of college but the college that I go to doesn't have a Navy ROTC program, it only has Army ROTC. I was thinking about transferring to a college that has Navy but all of the colleges near me that have it are too difficult to get into. If I enlisted in the Navy now, what are the ways in which I could become an officer someday?

My dad enlisted in the Navy and it took him his entire carrer of 25 years to get close to being an officer.

Have you talked to the Navy recruters about this? Maybe they can help push you in the right direction. However, don't sign anything until you are for sure. They might say stuff to get you to sign so make sure everything they say that sounds to good to be true is legit and backed in writing.

Why Navy only? Would the Army not be a good fit?

Btw, thanks for wanting to serve your country!

Take the Army ROTC scholorship and graduate. Have a lobotomy and learn to walk sideways like a crab. POOF... you're now a Navy officer. ; )

Seriously, if you cannot qualify to get into a Navy ROTC program or aren't willing to transfer to a school that has a NROTC program because it's too far away, do you think the odds are good that you could qualify for a program once you enlist. I'd think that your odds would not be significantly better. But then, serving in the Navy as an enlistedman would not be the end of the world either.

Good luck.

Being already enlisted and going to college is one of the best ways.

You don't have to be in an ROTC program in order to become an officer. You just have to be in the Navy with a college degree and the personal characteristics that they want in an officer.

I attended a private Christian college and a guy I knew was a Marine. He won the Marines' award for best officer trainee a couple years ago, and he was not even in an ROTC program (its not offered there). So, now that university has its name with his on a plaque that shows him as the winner for that year. Its a little comical that this private Christian university is on there with schools like the Citadel.

Join the Navy, with a degree in hand and a contract to become an officer. Apply for seal duty. You go through the same training and requirements of any other seal candidate.

1: finish college on your own dime and apply to OCS
2: Apply to BCDP(baccalaureate Degree Commissioning Program)
3: Enlist, then apply to STA-21.
4: Enlist, get your degree on your own time using Tuition assistance and CLEP/PACE/DANTES, then apply to OCS.
5: Enlist and work your way up to LDO or Warrant Officer. neither program currently requires a degree, but you must be at least an E or E7 to apply.

keep in mind that the age cutoff for some programs is 28(active duty time is subtracted from your age) while others you have until 35. Depending on what field you want to get into will determine the most logical way to go about it.
6: enlist, do your time, get out, use GI Bill to get a degree than apply to OCS.

Ok, the same thing with me. My college dosen't offer AFROTC, so I called up the nearest school that does and they allowed me to go into their program. The air force calls it cross-town school agreement. If I were you I would go look up the nearest school to your school with NROTC and talk with their Commandant of Cadets or their Unit Admissions Officer, heck it paid off for me and will probably work out for you. Then you can always bootstrap it meaning go in as enlisted first get your BA or BS then gain your commission that way.

If you can't get into Anapolis, you can apply for OCS (Officer Candidacy School) after receiving your degree and joining the Navy.
