Not if you can possibly avoid it.

If its for actual survival reasons, then yes. Otherwise you better think hard. Do you know the phrase "dying man's last meal"? Well plan yours because a tea-cup sized stomach means you will never eat another meal ever again.

And "you can still eat but only small quantities"? Dont believe it. You might suddenly become incapable of eating many things you eat now. You might become lactose intolerant. You might find that anything fried makes you throw up.

Even if you can eat it, you might not be able to. With a tea-cup stomache you cannot afford to waste the eating time. To get enough protein so your hair doesnt fall out you have to eat very specific things every chance you get.

And that 6 weeks then back to work? Not very freaking often! Sure the scar heals but the puking and the passing out from dehydration can last much longer.

I NEVER heard of GBS costing $44,000. Both my brother and I had the surgery. Me 3 months ago, him 5 years ago. If you want to chat, go to the Yahoo group Weight Loss Surgery Friendship & Support. I am a moderator. Start asking as many questions as you want. If you want to still chat after that, you can email me from the group and I will chat with you.

It is very exciting and is not an easy thing to do. Exhaust all your other options first because this is NOT easy and you have to do it for the rest of your life. Even if you don't chat with me or join the group, make sure you really research the surgery. Don't listen to people who tell you wild stories like the person who answered you before me. Also start to find out what your insurance company requires before they will pay for the surgery. It can take nearly a year from the date you decide to have GBS until the surgery actually happens, depending on the requirements of your company.

Good Luck
