I thought this would be fun. A change of pace from serious answers all the time. How well can you read a dog? Do you think my crippled dog in the picture is giving warning or does he mean business?

So that you guys know, his behavior is not directed to me or another human. I'm the one taking the picture and hes not looking my way.

Thank you MY BEST GUESS: I rescued them this way, I have his brother also who has it but the one you see is worse off. HE can get up and go outside on his own but he can't go far before hes exhausted and it doesn't take much for him to fall. Hes just a happy rescued dog except in this pic, LOL. If hes happy, I'm happy.

I think its a warning. If he meant business, I'd think he would be up and ready to attack. Although, I don't know why he is crippled, and he may be unable to get up.
EDIT: In that case, with the muscle atrophy, I would say he means business. That is similar to what my older dog does when my younger one bothers her... right before she attacks her and pins her to the ground.

HE can't do much if he's crippled so Im not worried yet. Ever had a dog lunge at you. Then they mean business.
Most dogs just growling is a defensive move not an aggression issue. Usually a remark from me they back down. I have one now that snarls a lot but when she lunges she doesn't snarl its just ON and I have to yank her off another dog. I still think most of her is still fear and defensive not socialized and doesn't realize the other dogs won't hurt her.

For some reason to me it looks like your dog is more confused then anything. He seems to have a questioning look on his face.
Just wanted to add, yes I can see the teeth because the mouth is open, but I don't see the lips curled or pulled back like in a snarl. IMO you just happened to snap the picture as he turned his head with his mouth open.
You know what I just now noticed the nose of the other dog in the picture off to the left. So maybe he is telling your other dog to back off and leave him alone.

First let me say that he looks good. I know a family that has a min pin with this problem the funny thing with this family is that the father and both children also have the same health problem. I'm sure it isn't the easiest thing with a bigger dog but your's looks to be in good health. just curious though have you thought or could he get a wheelchair for him to help him get around more??
He looks more limke my dogs when I take pictures he just looks like a happy dog.
Keep up the good work and please let me know the answr FI am curious.

Your dogs ears are back, a sign of tenseness, but the tongue is loose in the mouth. I assume your dogs back legs are crippled? If not, then the loose posture of the legs means he is relaxed. No hair stiffened, and the eyes don't seem to be really focused and dilated. Your dog may be playing or talking to you! Seeing the eyes up close or the tail might help more!

well, he upgraded his warning past just the slow or frozen body movements and then side-stare, to now adding what looks like a snarl.
its also quite possible you caught the pic at just a very precise moment in a series of other body movements, so for all i know, he's having a good time.
but from what i can tell, he's saying "Back Off!"

Not personally having met your dog, this is hard to determine... BUT if this were my Border Collie, this would be an expression she often has in rough house play time :) I have also met a few dogs that are very vocal and look like this when being vocal.

That's how my dogs look when they are playing. He doesn't have that ticked off look that a dog that really meant business would have. Without being able to see his other body language, I would say he is either goofing off or it's just a warning.

Looks like my dog at the end of a yawn before the mouth closes all the way.So I don't think its either one of the choices you listed, lol.
Bless you for not 'disposing'of him because of his ailment.
Since you rescued him knowing his and his brothers condition double,no triple, no, all the blessings in the world to you.
You are one of the Angels we read about...made me tear up,seriously.

Not knowing your pup, and knowing that he's crippled, and having a glare on my computer screen it's a tough call. I want to say it's a warning that if not heeded shortly will turn into a reprimand.
By the way, he is one handsome guy :)
