It appears you can give either of these medications to a dog, but they are toxic to cats. Kaopectate used to be recommended for cats, but the formula has changed and now it is toxic to cats, too.
You really should know why your cat has diarrhea before you give him any medications. A wellness examination by his vet is the best thing to do.
If you will add to your question with information about his age, what he is eating and drinking, litter box usage, known illness, maybe we can give you some hints on what is safe until he can be seen by his vet.
Purrs to you and kitty.

No, please don't give your cat any human medicines. It could kill him. The vet can give you something to help with the diarrhea. Parasites also need to be ruled out. I just took one of my foster cats to the vet for diarrhea and the vet ruled out parasites and worms and determined that the diarrhea was a reaction to some antibiotics she was taking. You definitely want to find out what the cause is and then the vet can give you medicine to make your cat feel better. You can also try giving your kitty a teaspoon of yogurt 3 times a day (make sure it is the kind with live and active cultures, vanilla or plain flavored). This might help until you can get her into the vet.

I would take him to the vets, they can get dehydrated very fast when they're sick, and for a small animal that can be very dangerous. Give him human meds only if the vet recommends it. Often the vet will have you put him on a bland diet, I have given my cats plain white meat chicken and white rice. It's easy to digest and slows down their bowels at the same time. But take him in first and ask your vet.
Best wishes, hope he feels better soon.

The dose of kaopectate that isn't lethal to cats is so small, you run a very big risk of overdosing your cat. I would suggest making sure your kitty has plenty of water and take him to the vet for the kind of medicine he really needs if this diarrhea continues.

Always ask a vet first before administering ANY human medication to pets. Most human medications are toxic to animals. In the past some anti-diarrheals were safe for pets..but recently some have been reformulated now making them toxic. Check with your vet to see which ones are safe.

I have given a cat kao pectate before...the vet suggested it. The cat objected to me force-feeding him the goop...but it did have the desired effect.

I don't recommend it. Take your cat to the vet and find out why he has diarrhea.
