I was told by an orthodontist that I have to get 4 pre molers removed for braces but what I want to know is that can i have a palatel expander put in my mouth, so that I do not have to have the 4 teeth taken out?

Would it then make my mouth bigger?

Would my face structure change.

It would make your upper jaw larger by maybe 1/2". Your teeth are obviously very crowded, and it's standard procedure to remove the premolars. You want lots of room so your dr. can move your teeth right into a beautiful smile. And no, it will not change the structure of your face perceptibly.

It's okay. Been there done that. It was not traumatic. The teeth come out easily, the gums heal quickly, just keep food out of the wounds.

The effectiveness of the expander depends on your age. It is much easier to expand the palate on yubg kids before the midline suture closes. In adult patients, expansion has to be done slowly. Having the four first premolars removed to make room is often a better option, as it allows for more space if needed. If you trust your orthodontist, trust his treatment plan.
