This is strange but the ones I saved in my documents work fine. Does anyone know why I cannot open new docs sent to me? This is weird and I can't figure it out. I called a person at the computer store and they told me I should buy a new version of Excel because mine is from 1997. It worked a few weeks ago on new docs sent to me but it doesn't open up new files now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Microsoft used the same format for Office 97 to Office 2003 - so you should be able to open all documents made with Office versions up to 2003.
Office 2007 introduced a new file format and maybe that's the reason why you have problems.
You can always ask the people sending you the files to save them in the old format before sending.
Sorry, have not yet updated to Office 2007 (and have no reason to do so for the moment) so I can't be more specific.

There is probably a macro or trigger in the new sheets comming to you that 97 cannot process
