Today I stayed home from school. My nose is runny and my throat hurts. My throat started hurting like a week ago and I kept gargling mouth wash and then it would go away. But 2 days ago it came back over night and had progressed to far to be cured by mouthwash. Usually when I have a cold I get a sore throat 1-2 days before the cold and then it goes away when the cold symptoms come. This time the cold symptoms are mild (3rd day) but my throat still hurts. It doesn't hurt much today but yesterday it hurt rlly bad. And i have a lot of mucus build up/post nasal drainage going on in my throat. I've had strep once before but that was a long time ago

Most of the time, for those who have a strep throat, they will run a fever, and be able to see white spots on or around the area of the tonsils.
Instead of mouthwash, try gargling instead with salted water, as hot (warm) as you can stand it. You see, it's the sinuses draining that causes the sore throat. So, are you taking a decongestant of any type?
Good luck, kiddo. God bless.

I just got this cold on tuesday, I was a little pissed off that I caught it because I take a lot of pride in my health and my not getting sick. I don't know why I expect myself to have a bullet-proof immune system.
Tuesday it was just an itch in my throat,
Wednesday it hurt when I woke up, (probably because the bacteria recoups in my throat during sleeping hours)
Thurs(today) I woke up, it's better than it was on tuesday.
I'm hoping tomorrow it's gone, if it's not I will be kind of pissed off at my body.

I have a nasal drip as well. or I did earlier today and late yesterday, now it's just a snotty nose(lol), this had also better be gone by tomorrow morning.
I've also been doing a lot of vocal work recently, growls/screams/gutturals - I have a small ammount of phlegm,
During all this I'm occasionally doing gutturals to keep my throat moving.
I hope you get over this stupid thing, I should be good in a day or two.

The key symptom that separates a cold from strep throat is a fever, and sometimes pain. Strep throat causes a moderately high fever, and it is usually extremely painful - it burns and tingles. Colds and sinus infections typically don't cause a fever, or it they do, its usually a very mild fever.

Strep throat is VERY painful. It is best described as the feeling of a stick being stuck in your throat with painful swallowing. It is a virus that needs the treatment of an anti-biotic.

The only way you'll know for sure is if you see a dr. and get tested for strep. If it's positive, you'll need antibiotics to clear it up. Have you taken your temp. and do you have a fever? Usually the general rule is you don't need antibiotics if you aren't running a fever. If you have strep, you will probably also have a fever.
Take care, hope you feel better soon.
