"When disaster comes to a city, has not the LORD caused it?" Amos 3:6

Let's move on to disasters. Disasters happen just as often in the U.S. as in countries that do not practice Christianity-- this country is not saved from them just because of the predominant belief system.

Some people claim that there are more disasters now than in the past, and that this indicates the Second Coming. But is this the truth? El Nino and La Nina make it appear that we have more water related disasters like floods and droughts, but those weather systems are long term patterns that man has known about for hundreds of years. The reoccurrence of El Nino is blamed for the destruction of the ancient Central American civilizations such as the Maya.

Are there more disasters now? Or are there more television shows about disasters now? Think about that. All these television shows feature the same film footage over and over again from the past thirty years, and this might give the appearance that there are more disasters now, especially to someone who would like to think so

Must be the Gays fault

Disasters are natural occurrences and have nothing to do with dietys or people.

Religion was created by early man trying to explain disaster. He created a God that was in control, then realized that if an all powerful being was killing us, there had to be a reason. They then came up with the Law to provide a reason that enabled mankind to control God's actions, when that didn't work, they added to the Law so that it was impossible to follow, so that disasters could still be the work of God, but mankind was to blame.

The doctrine of God controlling disaster is a form of human self loathing.

God has nothing to do with natural disasters. I'm going to give a example: If a child is born. It is because of "God" If a child dies from a disease at a young age. It is because of "God" Basically christians and most religions claim that if something negative or positive happens in this world it is because of God. But no it is not. It is a part of the earth's cycle. Nature in fact. Nature has nothing to do with God, it is just being Nature. Like the birth cycle. Things get reborn, survive, and get destroyed and repeat. No God has anything to do with this. Just nature :)

"God causes the sun to shine on the just and the unjust, alike, and causes the rain to come on the just and the unjust alike."

God wants us to acknowledge His authority. In old days (and even today in some parts of the world), people would actually pray TO the disaster, whether the wind, or rain, or earth or fire, et cetera, and God is saying that we should NOT pray to the elements, or look to help from nature, but rather, pray to GOD, and look to GOD for help.

Like one song put it, "Sometimes He calms the storm, and othertimes, He calms the child."

United States has no monopoly on Christianity, in fact, on the contrary, the USA is NOT a Christian nation - just look at all the pornography, child abuse and neglect, women who are battered and abused, thieves, murders, and the like! Look at what the ACLU is attempting to do in removing ALL religion (especially Christianity) from our culture! It may be that Katrina was a warning from God to shape up, or it may be that it was just another event on the face of this planet. One thing I CAN say, however, is that if we push God out of our country, out of our schools, out of our government, and then a catastraphy DOES occur (such as Katrina), we can't expect God to help us after we've pushed Him out!

Whether all these natural disasters are an indication of Biblical events or not is a question of speculation. We DO know that Jesus said we should always be watching and waiting and be ready for His return, "For you know not what hour the master returns."

Great question. I believe that you are correct. There are probably the same number of disasters but they are more visible.

That said, global warming is a true event and this may increase the number and intensity of natural disasters.

I don't believe in god, but if I did and he caused natural disasters, I would question the morality of such a being.

God CAN cause natural disasters if He so chooses. However, as in Genesis when He created the world and all therein, He also set the world in motion. So from the science of weather, the different occurrences that happen in the atmosphere create for us rain, snow, hurricanes, tornadoes, typhoons, earthquakes, slides, etc. Be sure that God is in control of it all, but He monitors the changes and happenings, not causes them to happen.

Since God does not exist then my answer would be "no." And you're right in your observation. There have been roughly the same number of incidents. The problem is that the media distorts our view of the world. This is why so many people think there are more murders and other related crimes. The media shows all of these incidents, whereas, they might have not gotten them before. This is partly due to the fact that people are able to easily contact the media corporations due to phone, Internet and email.

i believe God allows things to happen for a reason. Natural disasters that take place in places like Asia, I believe that happens because the people there worship idols such as cows and rats. How can you put before God a rat and say this is my god. In this case I believe God made this happen purposely.

Now with Hurricane Katrina there is a conspiracy with that entire event

Isa 45:7 I form the light and create darkness,

I bring prosperity and create disaster;
