Yesterday she wanted to go out so I let her outside, rather than staying inside on a nice day.
When I came back home, my neighbor angrily came out and told me that the dog had been barking and howling for about an hour or so, (not the entire time), shook her head in a disdaining way towards me and ran back in the house and slammed he door.
Then after I unloaded a real kennel, not the makeshift one that I had her in, my neighbor comes out, looks at it, and my friend, shakes her head and goes back inside and slams the door.
Should I put her in the kennel instead of my dog? What are the dog laws. My neighbors all have dogs, and she consantly complains about them to me before I got one and she knew I was in the market for one.
Her husband has also told me if I do get a dog to keep it on a leash and it better not go over the property line because his wife has a shotgun and knows how to use it, actually said this on a couple occassions. What should I do? Thanks for all A's

I am a dog owner, and there is nothing worse than someone's dog that is barking and howling. Some people live to be grumpy and gripe about everything. But you need to remember that everyone is entitled to peace and quite, and there are city ordinances that are enforced by the police when your dog is noisy enough to bother your neighbor. No noise from your premises should ever be able to be heard in someone else's house. When our dog is outside, the minute she begins to bark, she is brought in to not disturb the neighbors. I expect the same from my neighbors in return. Your neighbor on the other hand is making threats, and that is against the law and cannot shoot your dog unless the dog is attacking as per most city ordinances. She sounds a little unbalanced, so I would watch my dog if I were you and make sure it never leaves the yard.

It's generally a good idea to keep your dog inside if you are going to be gone for an extended period of time (realistically more thatn 15-20 minutes). Part of this is certainly politeness towards your neighbors, I dislike a barking dog as much as the next gal, although is also sounds like your neighbor is being pretty childish.
Beyond making life enjoyable for those around you, it is also a case of the dog's safety. A dog kept outside can be the victim of bad weather, or taken out of the yard or a zillion other things I can't think of at this moment. I've been a dog owner for years and I leave my dog inside when I leave.
However you asked about the legality of it. It is not illegal to leave your dog outside, unless it's a blizzard or something. Your neighbor can complain to animal control if your dog continues to bark, though.

You shouldn't leave the dog outside for a long period of time. Weather conditions can change at any time. I do not agree with the wife threatening to use a shot gun to shoot your dog. But, people are crazy so definitely be careful when you let your dog out. If you know they hate dogs, then let the dog out to use the bathroom and then let the dog back in immediately. If you want the dog to get exercise take it to a dog park. If you do not have the time to take the dog to the park then you shouldn't have a dog at all. A barking dog can be very, very annoying. Unfortunately alot people are not animal lovers.

As a dog owner a responsibility is to keep it under control. With the animal barking and howling and aggravating your neighbor, she could file a complaint against you.
Do you have a noise ordinance in your area? Perhaps it is best to not leave your dog outside when you are not home.
Best of luck, and enjoy your new pet.

Most municipalities have local by-laws in regards to barking dogs. You can't let your dog bark if it is disturbing someone.
If you aren't a dog lover, the sound of a barking dog that goes on and on can be very irritating.
Keep your dog from barking and keep it on your property, report any further threats to the police if you think they are serious.
They shouln't be threatening to shoot your dog.
In Canada, the penalty for threatening a dog is actually higher than actually killing the dog.

If the idiot next door shoots your dog its a crime that can and should put them in jail. Not to mention going to hell for knowingly killing a neighbors dog.
As for the barking, buy one of those shock things that shocks the dog when he barks. They really do work.
Other then that, I'd ignore them. They should like real a**holes!!
edit: Actually, I'd call the police about the shotgun thing. I really would. You'll have to be on your best behavior about the barking, but saying such a thing, multiple times, is just wrong. Much more so then a barking dog.

Basically the dog cannot create a "public nuisance" by excessively barking or whining. It is your responsibility to ensure the dog is physically in your control, on a lease, or kept in the confines of your property at all times. I love dogs, but you got to what you got to do to keep the peace, and respect other peoples rights. Best of luck. I would Google other tips and tricks to make your dog, your neighbor, and you happy. Best of luck

Sounds like your neighbour is a Right B**ch!!! I think that you could inform the RSPCA about the threats to shoot your dog and also you should inform the police that the woman has a shotgun!!
Your neighbour obviously is a dog hater - when you get one of them living next door to you they make your life a misery do nothing but complain.
If I were you I would put her in the kennel!!! lol
Hope you get this resolved soon.
best wishes

Play a tape of a dog barking and howling for an hour and see if you enjoy it. Find a way to stop the barking before complaining about your neighbor.

I don't know what the dog laws are for where you live, but I bet you could find it online if you searched it on Google
like "dog laws for _________"
maybe you could get a wooden fence
that way your dog can't get free
and it'll block alot of things from making the dog bark hopefully
or if you don't want a fence
you could get an invisible electric fence
so your dog won't leave the yard
