This is hard to say, because we eat food from all over the world. Part of being American is that our culture takes the best from all over the world and change it slightly to make it our own. Normally, Americans eat whatever Europeans eat (eggs, chicken, lots of beef, pork etc.), but we also eat a lot of Chinese food, and recently, Thai food.
Chinese food in America is usually not the same as Chinese food in China, since the Chinese who have lived here for hundreds of years have their own version of Americanized-Chinese.
When you mentioned "taco" you were referring to a popular type of food known as "Tex-Mex", which is a hybrid of Texas and Mexican cooking. Tacos are the most famous of all of the "Tex-Mex" foods. It is ground beef (hamburger) in a hard, deep fried U-shaped shell made from corn meal. Usually it comes with chopped lettuce, tomato, shreaded cheeze, sour cream, and hot pepper & tomato sauce.
-------------------------------------
...The taco in the U.S. is different from the original Mexican taco and is handed down by the Mexican population of old California. It is a gourmet affair, consisting of an over-sized fried corn tortilla (not a hard shell) filled with seasoned ground or shredded beef (or chicken or pork), cheese, lettuce and sometimes tomato. Often, the taco itself is deep-fried so that the shell molds itself around the meat filling. Most California supermarkets sell large corn tortillas for this purpose. However with the 21st Century influx of Mexican immigrants to the U.S., these tacos are getting hard to find outside of the Southwest U.S. More often, Mexican restaurateurs tend to serve Mexican tacos, or emulate the hard-shelled, fast-food version of this taco found at such fast food chains such as Mighty Taco, Taco Cabana, Taco Bell, Taco Bueno, Del Taco, Taco Casa or Taco John's. The taco has become a popular Mexican dish in the United States.
One version of the taco found in Tex-Mex cuisine is the breakfast taco which contains eggs and a combination of potatoes, sausage, or bacon....

Tortilla
...In Mexico, Central America, the United States, and Canada, a tortilla is a kind of thin, unleavened flat bread, made from finely ground maize (corn) or wheat flour. A similar bread from South America is called arepa. The maize version is the original North American tortilla and is regarded by many as the "authentic" tortilla. However, it would be inaccurate to discount flour tortillas is "inauthentic," as flour tortillas originated in regions of Mexico unsuited for growing corn. In fact, this form of bread pre-dates the arrival of Europeans to America, and was only called "tortilla" by the Spanish from its resemblance to the traditional Spanish round unleavened cakes and omelettes (originally made without potatoes, which are native to South America).
The Spanish word "tortilla" denotes two different classes of foods, depending on where the term is encountered. Etymologically, it is derived from the word torta, meaning a plain round cake...

We have all kinds of soup and stew. If you go to a "Malaysian" restaurant, you will get Malaysian soup. If you go to a Japanese restaurant, you will most likely get Minso soup.
Traditional western stew is beef stew, and traditional western soup is vegetable, chicken, or beef soup.

Americans also eat a lot of Italian food such as pizza, ravioli, and spaghetti.
A common American soup is Chicken Noodle soup:

A popular Tex-Mex food is Texas Chilli Beans:
----------------------
Chili con carne, often known simply as chili, is a spicy stew-like dish. The essential ingredients are chili peppers and meat. Variations, either geographic or by personal preference may include tomatoes, onions, beans, and other ingredients. The name "chili con carne" is a slight corruption of the Spanish chile con carne, which means "chile (peppers) with meat". Chili con carne is the official dish of the U.S. state of Texas....

a taco is a corn or flour tortilla (it's a mexican flat bread made from corn meal or flour. ) Usually filled with spicey ground beef steak or chicken. Yummy! Chicken and dumplings is one of my favorite foods, it's a creamy chicken based soup with noodles, and has biscut dough dropped into it. To make puffy dumplings.

Americans eat a lot of tomato soup.
And of course, we like anything with beef and potatoes, such as beef & potatoe stew.
------------------------------
Tomato soup is a soup made from tomatoes. It is commonly used as an ingredient in more complex dishes, and, unlike most savory soups, it may be served either hot or cold. It can be made from chunks of tomato or with only a puree. The canned condensed version of the soup is one of the leading styles in the U.S. and is most associated with the Campbell Soup Company. In the UK, Heinz Tomato Soup is one of the archetypal comfort foods. Many people enjoy tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches. You can also turn tomato soup into cream of tomato or creamy tomato with the substitution of milk for water in the preparation of the condensed version. Many toppings can also be used, such as sour cream, shredded cheese, crackers,or salsa.
The American composer Robert Ashley wrote "Empire", a section of his opera Atalanta (Acts of God), on the origins and proliferation of tomato soup.
