I have never asked a question before, but I was thinking about all the demands for the proof of God, and thought, wow, I bet you that it is just as hard to prove that Science exists. So where is science; where did it come from; is science omnipotent; is science only the product of our imaginations? If all humans died, would there be such a thing as science? If so, if there were no humans, who would be doing the science? Science is delusional?

It is not a dumb question: I am a practicing scientist, I've used the scientific method for close to forty years; it's just a method; and many of the theories are wrong, but if we over value science, that makes us delusional. I think that many people who have bought into science, to the exclusion of other views of the world, I find have limited themselves. Science is not real, like a stone can be real, once humans have moved on there is no science. It sort of shows the difference between science and God, if we all died God would continue to exist, but science wouldn't.

Interesting responses. Wish I could answer each individually. I get the feeling that some people have deified science, but it's just a method, a way of looking at the world that has gone awesomely off-course.. Really there is not much to it.

All that we humans see and hear and feel is only through our perceptions, so on those grounds Science is as real as an apple or a bird you see in the sky. Might as well ask 'Does anything exist?'. Science is about well documented and tested theories, with repeated experiments which 100% prove a fact. Granted, some science is a bit ropey with less than 100% proved results, but that's better than 0% proof of God.
How about this for proof of science: You were able to post this question on Yahoo! Answers. Without science this would not be possible.

Take the light bulb. Without science we wouldn't have learnt about electricity and resistance and that passing electricity through certain materials, causes them to emit heat and light. No alien ship flew down and told us this things, we had to learn them ourselves. Using science.
You might as well doubt cars or roads. Can I prove that they aren't just some complex convincing hallucination/dream/the matrix? No. But what difference would it make anyway?
Science is all around us. It came from us. Science isn't omnipotent. It is the product of our imaginations and other mental faculties as well. If all humans died, there would be not be such a thing as human science. There might be science on some other planet? Science isn't delusional, although scientists sometimes are.

I see where you are trying to go, but you are confusing two things.
Science in controverse with Religions. There is no doubt, that religion exists. Religion is manmade, so is science.
You are confusing science as contra to God.
God is told to be omnipotent and all present. Science is not comparing itself with God.
Science is not a product of our imagination. Science is a ssimple as having one apple in your left hand, and one apple in your right hand, and now figure out, how many apples you have in total. That is science.
Of course, Atheists are demanding a proof of the existence of God. But you are really the first guy I know, demanding a proof that Science exists.
I just dont see, how those two compare. The question is, is there a god, or is there no god.
Your only valid question that for would be: is there science, or is there no science. The answer is: yes, there is science. The Proof ? One plus one makes two apples. The proof ? Can you count to two ? If you can, thats a simple proof.
No such simple or complicated proof exists for the existence of god.
On a side note: If somebody claims the existence of something, its upon him to proof it. Its not up to an Atheist to proof that a god does not exists. The Atheist is not claiming it.
He just does not believe in god, unless proofed else.

That's like asking "can you prove that singing exists" or "can you prove that cooking exists."
Like someone else said, science is an action. It's coming up with a hypothesis, testing, making mistakes, more testing, and discovering new concepts and ideas about the world as a result.
If I, according to my observations, say that I think more white tailed deer live in the woods behind my house than non white tailed deer, and then sit back there for hours a day recording my observations I'm doing science.
But no, without humans there would be no science... Just like there would be no singing, cooking, writing, spinning around in circles in an office chair, or anything else.
People hold true to science because it is simply the process of doing tests to show that something is true or not. It can be proven.

Being an idea, "science" cannot be proven or disprove. If you theory is that God too is an idea, then you are way off base. Atheist are wrong in their assumption because saying God defiantly does NOT exist is like saying there is no where in the universe a blue rock with red speckles. Unless you have visited every square inch of the universe and in some minds the multi-verse, then how can one state that? I am more inclined to listen to an agnostic (which in Greek would be ignoramus btw) than an atheist. There is no way for me to say definitively there is a God. I believe, through faith and experience, he exists, but it is just that, faith. For me to tell someone else what they believe is wrong is contrary to scripture. What I can do is live a holey life acceptable to God and TESTIFY of his love for man kind. Here is some advice my pastor shared with me a long time ago: "A man with an argument is always at the mercy of a man with an experience." I can claim to believe that Australia does not exist. I have never been there, never met anyone that has. However, Australians would tend to disagree. Until someone takes me to Australia, I will never believe. The same holds true for God. Until each of us has our own encounter with our creator, then we will live meaningless selfish lives with unmet expectations and unfulfilled dreams. God's love proves itself and does not need you to argue it. Be still and KNOW I am God. May the most high bless you and let your light be shone as a beacon unto the lost for all you life.

my friend, i am really sorry for u dont know what science is.
science is not delusional nor it is created, it is just there and every thing that u see around u and the way it works, that is science. sciencetists are not creating science the are only tring to study it. for it exists, we are only trying to study it.
who created it :- well i can belive the easy way or the hard way.
easy way:- there is a god who created the world and every thing and after death u will go to him and he will put u in hell or heven depends onwhat u did in this world.
or the hard way - (the reall way) :- life has evolved. and that is science who is tring to study it. now in 2007 we have only scrached the surface of science. the answers are there only waiting to be discovered. but so far there is evidence that something is out there for every thing is happening today but in another 50 or 100 years we should be able to answer atleast half the questions asked today. u should understand that science has only started developing for the last 150 years or so. so it is too early to answer the question u asked.
and
after death:- well brother. where were u before u were born???? just like u never existed before u were born u wont exist after u are dead. so dont think to much about it. live ur life and try to find out how things are happening here in this world.
try to belive in science. because scientists have found a way to freeze ur body the way so that non of the cell will be distroyed- it is up to science to find out a way how to bring u back to life. i just hope i am alive to see that .

Science is a system of acquiring knowledge through something called scientific method. There are three forms of science: natural, social and formal. Since people employ scientific method everyday and learn new things in their area of study then I would say there's your proof that Science exists. Science is not some alleged, physical being that controls the universe, therefore, there is no physical evidence to support it's existence.
Most of your questions seem a bit incoherent so I'm not going to bother addressing them...

Science is a process that we use to avoid as many mistakes as possible, when learning about the earth, ourselves and the cosmos.
It is not infallible, but is the best we currently have for learning new things.
The proof of science is in the results, as is the proof of religion.
The earth is a much better place to live in for humans right now, because of science. Religion on the other hand, consistently causes violence, and family dispute.
The other reason that the belief in God demands strong evidence is the demands that his followers have placed on human kind for thousands of years. When religious belief goes unchecked, we get the dark ages and the taliban. Science unchecked is not science.

Ummmm, yeah.
I can also prove that religion exists. Science and religion are terms used to describe a system of human experience. Science is a systematic study of particular subjects, such as physics, chemistry, astronomy, etc. I can prove they exist because I can show you people conducting science. I can show you the experiments and results obtained by such, which are proof of physical phenomena.
I can prove religion exists by showing you a church, and a service in which religion is currently taking place. Unlike science however, I can not show you proof of god. While science provides results, like new chemicals or new understanding of physical properties, religion doesn't offer proof of god.

Everyone is a scientist at heart. We have all wondered about our existence and how we can control our lives more independently. The quest for knowledge.
I guess what you're hinting at, is that we might perceive the world differently and thus skew some of our evidence. What looks like a tsunami may resemble only a mere tidal wave to one another. I feel when the general public forms a consensus on a subject, then it must be closer to the truth.
