Whether or not I personally respect it, it will most likely be made legal within a few years, mostly because there are no reasonable legal arguments against it. In this country, interracial marriage was against the law in some states as late as 1964. The same arguments that made discrimination on the basis of race illegal will eventually be found applicable to gay marriage.
As for my personal feelings, gay marriage does not affect me personally in any way. Whether or not I have a married couple living next door that consists of two men as opposed to a man and a woman does not affect my marriage in any way. My wife is still has complete jurisdiction over what I wear and eat. Nothing is gonna change that.
The arguments that have been posted opposing gay marriage are ridiculous and ignorant. Guess what, while it is not genetically advisable to marry your sibling, it is legal and although rare in our society, it is done and legally recognized.
I don't know how you can link the legalization of gay marriage to pedophilia considering the vast majority of child molestations are done by a man forcing himself on a younger girl. You really have to have some issues if you can compare the legal union of two consenting adults to an act of violence committed on an innocent child.
And to the idiot that is worried about the legalization of bestiality, if the only reason that you are not jumping on your pet Labrador is that it’s illegal, then you got bigger problems. (I don't know, but if they made bestiality legal tomorrow, Fido wouldn't all of a sudden start looking good to me).
However it does affect the rights of a gay couple. I do believe that if a homosexual dissatisfies his partner after a long period of time, he should be in jeopardy of losing half his stuff. Hey, share the joy.
Finally, I have been witness to a man not being allowed near the deathbed of his long time lover because the family did not want him there and he had absolutely no rights. The ban on gay marriage is discriminatory, wrong with the only justification for such a ban stemming from fear, bigotry and ignorance.
Jus my 2 cents

You may not have to respect an institution, but you need to respect the right to make that decision. I sure as heck don't respect how certain religions treat women (I'm talking a Christain based faith here, not middle east), but I have to respect their right as human beings to make that choice. The only time I don't is when they aren't given the right to choose otherwise.
So yes, I respect Gay Marriage if the marriage is based on faith and love and long term commitment, but not if it's after 2 weeks just to show up the family or local community. Just like I would respect any other marriage if made for the right reasons, or lack of respect if it's for the wrong ones. How many of you can respect a marriage of two straight people who don't love each other because they just got drunk and one got pregnant (EXAMPLE HERE FOLKS!! JUST EXAMPLE). What kind of way of entering a life long commitment is that? It's not good for any party involved and certainly not the children.. I can't respect that sort of decision.

I think gays have just as much of a right to be miserable as the rest of us.
Majeed, you are not only insane you are an jerk. Americans are not all devils. It just shows your stupidity the way you overgeneralize. You cannot judge an entire country from the deeds of a few of its citizens. That would be like saying all Muslims are terrorists and all French people are rude, which I know for a fact to be very wrong assumptions. Maybe you should try to be more open minded. There is a saying "those who live in glass houses should not throw stones" How perfect is your country? And yourself for that matter.

i definitely respect gay rights and partnership.my brother is gay and when he finds the right guy i want him to be happy.also some one just doesn't chooses to be gay they just are.they may have just fallen in love with someone of the same sex.take willow from Buffy the vampire slayer, she just fell in love with Tara, she just didn't say oo look at her she is hot.
i hate how Christians keep telling all the homosexual people out there that they are going to hell, because like so many of them have said its not their place to judge, its God.in fact how can anybody be completely certain that god is against gay marriage?yea it says it in the bible, but are you 100% sure that they were God's words?maybe somewhere along the line some guy just added it in because he was a repressed gay man and didnt want others to be happy?
also if God didnt want there to be any homosexuals, why would he even make it possible?why didnt he just make humans asexual or something like that?
i do think it shouldnt neccasarily be called marriage because marriage is between a man and woman, the governement should just make a new word for them,or have they?
as to everyone who keeps saying there arent going to be any children adn stuff like that,i do beleive the straight population is higher than gay.there is mabey a total of 30 or 50 kids in my scool that are openly gay out of 1410
lot of people are gonna thumbs down me arent they?oh well

I do respect gay marriage. THey have to pay taxes and obey this country's laws, why shouldn't they have every right that a straight person has? This country is supposed to have a separtion of church and state, but with rules like no gays can marry, you really have to wonder if that still holds true.

they have the same right to be miserable like everyone else.
the only problem is the idea of someone pretending to be married for healthcare benefits, and tax breaks, but who's to say this doesn't happen with men and women. I'm sure it does, so in reality, it doesn't matter. I may not agree with it, but that doesn't deny anyone the right to have a happy life with the partner they choose

Being gay or lesbians is a sin before the eyes of God, now you bring up a very interested subject & you just dug a hole for yourselve, You said just because the bible says it is wrong is not a good enough answer, You know why it is not good enough for you, it is maybe you are gay, & you can't face the facts of what the bible says, now you also say that if the bible says to jump off a bridge will I do it, let me say something here, satan took Jesus in a vision & told him to cast himself down that the angels of heaven will help him, Jesus said Thou shall not tempt the Lord thy God, So I say the samething, the reason it is not written is because we would be tempting God. & BTW, it is not in the bible to jump off a bridge, But it is about gays & lesbians. I just wonder why.

The Bible wouldn't tell us to jump off a bridge, it asks us to follow God's laws, and God isn't stupid, unlike you. This country's gay rights quest is leading to polygamy. Is that acceptable? Within the next fifty years, people will be marrying their cows.

Well God isn't going to ask us to jump off a bridge..Gay marriages is wrong. Give it time, and pedophiles will want to marry young kids. Will that make it right, because they love each other.
