Ok, If I am old, and in pain and I have lived a fulfilling life and I no longer want to live, what is the whole issue in helping this person get their wish. Why should you be forced to stay in a world you no longer want to live in? Spare the whole b.s. about suicide is a sin, if you are not religious and do not believe this, why not let the person have it?

NO way in hell do I think a doctor should tell you if you shoudl the pull the plug or not, Im talking about a person who is still "sane", who says damn it, I want to die now, and another point a lot brougth up people who want to commit suicide, you know what, this world is cruel and people are evil and if you are perfectly healthy but dont want to live in this material world, I also don't see what is the issue, but most suicide cases want attention and someone to help them because if they were dead serious about dying youd do it in a way where you are guaranteed to die.

Did you know they are testing this in the Netherlands. I think it is your choice ultimately, the family nor doctors should be able to pull the plug on you, it is harder on a case where someone is a vegetable, but still, out of your own will, if you want to die, what is wrong with that. I truly don't think God would be mad, the only thing is you gave up.

Ya how morally we put animals to sleep perfectly healthy yet, people we stop, animals are living breathing beings, they didnt tell their owners they want to die, yet the still do.

Wow Sailor girl I LOVED your response, you think just like me, sometimes I'm like I am damn disgusted of being human, I really want to jump out of my skin and not be a part of this society. We are gluttons, we just destroy everything. No one cares anymore. If you want to talk more, please email me.

I love your point too Morning, like people who want to commit suicide, are depressed, yet no matter what you do, you will ALWAYS be depressed or revert back to that state, medicine and therapy do not help, you have to fight that battle on your own. Its hard man.

I agree. As long as it's the patient who wants it. When my husband's grandmother was in the hospital they thought she wouldn't make it, and told the doctors to pull the plug. It turned out she lived another 5 years. How rude would that have been? I don't think other people are capable of making that decision for them, and one should have that in writing if that is what they want for themselves.

Generally, I like the idea that someone who has no quality of life can choose to end it, but it brings up so many other issues.
The problem is that many of the people who want to die are not mentally competent - which creates a moral quandry. Could you kill someone if there was some question about whether or not they were in their right mind when they made the decision? It would also raise the issue of people pushing or imposing euthanasia on others in order to get an inheritance, or just to get that person out of their lives.
Its not as cut and dry as you make it seem.

There are two kinds of Moral:
Religion
and
Respecting Others
Many people pick being mindless Sheep and also pick Religion. They do not actually respect other human beings. Their only function in life is to follow commands.
So far the greatest Sinners, Killers, and Criminals have some Belief, Faith, or Religion they are a strong member of. In the case of my Father, he manipulated the Sheep into freeing him from Prison, then would go kill and permenantly Damage Children. In the case of Hitler,.. mindless sheep are GO! Manson was a religion.. he still has followers and it was his followers doing these crimes.
These are minor examples you can accept but the world is shaped by these things. Land and people are owned by these things. It's not respect for them that makes you brign them in,.. it's their lives in danger from your followers that make them be forced to follow you and their children are made stupid.
Humans Suck. I have been finding out most are not born with Sympathy and Empathy. I just feel more and more like I am not human,.. I help because I want to help others,.. they help others because they are fakeing things or scared of something.
Locally I saw this balanceing act at it's worse. The great kids I went to school with went to school and had their Sunday best, then they would go kill people,.. All they thought they had to do is go to Church and all was forgiven, even if immediately after church they were going to kill somone. The people at Church supported that them being there fixed everything. This acceptence allowed for more and more of their peers and the church goers to have this pattern. It is abuse of some system that was put in place but this abuse has been what the recently converted have been saying was their reason for joining.
Morally, for a Doctor.. they should be able to support this choice as it overrides their goal to save their patients. The Patients wishes Govern the messures a Doctor may exercise.
Morally, for a Christian,.. it's better for the person to commit suicide by their own hand because they have been misinformed they are personally going to heaven and if the person is a stranger they won't be in heaven.. so less crowding... more room for friends and family up there. Most actions are Self Centered and have reasons like this. Like the option of some organizations to go into other Countries to help, they have learned from what they have read that if they do not teach these people they will go to Heaven but if they are taught their faith they cannot go to heaven because of things they cannot fulfill due to their poverty.

I think it is immoral to force your values and beliefs on other people and think assisted suicide ought to be an option for some people. Truth is people are free to commit suicide with out discussing it with anyone, the problem comes in when you want assistance. There is the issue of people being depressed and making a decision to die based on their feelings of hopelessness, when perhaps things aren't really hopeless. There is worry that it could lead to euthanizing a person because they don't want to be a burden on family or they don't feel they can afford to live. Mostly the objection is based on religious beliefs.

We will put animals to sleep to relieve them from their suffering. We make people who should have the right to make up their mind suffer because of a law... It's a very sad issue. Then there's people who try to kill themselves because they are depressed, but they don't fully succeed and barely live, because medical personal save them and put them back togther to a possible existence filled with a life time of more suffering, and possibly in a way where they can't even kill themselves. Yes, I guess the bottom line is that murder is illegal in most countries, and suicide is murder. I just don't know why.

I agree with you totally. People fear that relatives will put pressure on such a person to opt for euthanasia, which is a real concern (hey! I get a huge inheritance if you off yourself!).
IMO, impartial persons such as a doctor and a judge should be involved, just to make sure that there is no monkey business. Other than this, I can't support any moral objection to this.

With very adequate safeguards against monetary depression or blood imbalance and excessive family encouragement, totally agree with your position. Unregulated forms of killing elderly or very sick happen thousands of time daily in USA. Strap on another Morphine patch.

i am in the motion to legalize euthanization. for me, it's more painful to see/watch your patient in a dying situation rather than the patient itself. so as long as the person itself wish for it, i think it's better to give her wishes come true with the signatories of the family members. he/she could feel better dying without to suffer much before to die.
<>i have a religion but just doesn't play a big role in it as seeing most of them are not doing the right things on earth (though they think it's right for them). but i believe in the Almighty God.

I have no trouble with euthanasia. My issue is with allowing doctors to end people life. To me, that's a conflict of interest and violated the Hippocratic oath.
