Hi, Our box of tax records was destroyed and we need copies of our previously filed tax returns for DC and MD. Their respective web sites are not useful and we can't get a helpful person on the phone. We filed ourselves, so we don't have a preparer who has a copy. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

For federal, see http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc156.html - there is a form you can mail in. A transcript (free) will probably give you all the info you need, it's just computer-printed so in a different format.
