The only time to get private insurance for a pregnant woman is way before she gets pregnant. You won't find a private insurance policy that will cover the birth/maternity expenses if she's already pregnant. Not gonna happen.

Also, if you're looking to purchase a private insurance policy for a woman who plans to be come pregnant, make sure that the policy you purchase actually covers maternity. Many private plans don't include maternity in the standard benefits, and you have to add a maternity rider for an additional premium.

No private insurance is going to accept a woman who's already pregnant. Oh, and private insurance ALSO isn't likely to offer maternity benefits, even if she's not pregnant now. IF they do, you have to carry the insurance a full year before getting pregnant.

Insurance is supposed to be a wealth protection tool not a reaction to a known upcoming claim experience. As a result, the only remedy would be to enroll on an employer sponsored healthplan.

If you are looking at privately funded insurance (not employer offered), you need to get coverage BEFORE she is pregnant, or they will not cover the pregnancy, since it is pre-existing.
