Outstanding question way to make people think!!! The GOVERNMENT here changes every 4-8 years the COUNTRY is what we were founded upon. I fully agree with the statement I joined to serve my COUNTRY dispite what I see wrong with the GOVERNMENT. Although I am mostly conservative in my views I have never followed "party" lines I think each issue through for my self. It might be corny to quote a movie but there was a line in a movie that said " People should not be afraid of their government, a government should be afraid of their people" and I agree but also you should love and support your COUNTRY and what it stands for ( or at least in our case what we were ment to stand for) or LEAVE !!!!! I'll get off the soapbox now.

You Oath of military service is to the Constitution of the United States, the Peoples Document. You will follow the orders of those appointed over you. But your ultimate word and defense is to the Constitution and People of the United States. No place does it say government. It is inherent that as long as the Government abides by the Constitution you defend it as well, because the government belongs to the People as well.

Your Country is what ever your government is at the time, because your countrymen vote it in, kind of an oxymoron. If your saying you did not vote for the government that is in power but still serve you country who the head of government is commander in chief of the country, you make an exceptional point, outstanding way to go.

I do know the difference also...and thank God for you and those like you. My Dad fought for his country in WWII and Korea - and our governments both wars may have not necessarily been to his liking, but our country was precious to him.

there is no difference really. Your government was elected by the citizens of your country and as such (until or unless replaced) represents the sentiments of those citizens.. Whether you like it or not, you are fighting for your country on orders of the government entrusted by the people to make such decisions for them.

When you are sworn in you pledge to "uphold the Constitution of The United States" and "defend her against all enemies, both foreign asnd domestic".
Nothing about supporting any political party of political view or person. Of course you are to follow the orders of the Commamder In Chief, regardless of his party or your own political views.
With any job, you do what the boss says.

Know that, regardless of the rights or wrongs of said war, there are some of us mindful of the fact that servicemen and women fight on our behalf. I for one, will always remember what you do for us and will always honour those prepared put their lives on the line for me. Similarly, I will never forget those who have suffered injury or who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
