The cop was nice and gave him careless driving instead a 2 point ticket and told him he can go to court and fight the ticket and get the points taken away..... how much do you think he would end up paying for no points

Something isn't quite right with this information. Normally, a careless driving would occur when going more than 25mph over the limit.

What it sounds like is the officer wrote a 2 point ticket instead of charging careless driving!

Without stipulating what state or municipality makes it difficult to research.

A normal speeding summons will still have a point assessment and a fine!

I'm not familiar with the State of New Jersey's point assessment list, but if the Officer wrote your friend for a lesser infraction and told him to go to court, then that means that in court the violation could possibly be reduced to a non-pointable infraction (like a seatbelt).

That type of plea-bargaining is done in a lot of municipalities, in NYC where I work, it does not.
