This is from the book of Matthew: "Again the devil taketh him [Jesus] up into an exceeding high mountain and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them, and saith unto him: 'All these will I give thee if thou wilt fall down and worship me.' "

The bible tells us that Jesus is God. If that were true, then of course the devil would have known that. Yet according to this story, the devil took the all-powerful God, creator and owner of the universe, up on an exceedingly high mountain and offered Him this earth if He would fall down and worship the devil, who could not claim to own one foot of dirt! Is it possible the devil was such an idiot? Should any credit be given to this god for not being

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Yes, the devil is that much of an idiot. He is also the god of this world, given to him by Adam.
Jesus was tempted, for empathy for us. But also because satan had the right to offer the world and his kingdom. Jesus was in the form of man, He had sthe same tempts and trials that we have, and overcame them the same way. With faith, the word and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus was human just like the rest of us. I think it wasn't until he died and risen from the dead when he was one with God. Jesus was tempted just like the rest of us. Satan yearnes for Gods power. He is jealous and envious. He will do anything to win over a child's soul. We get tempted everyday and have to fight everyday to live for God.
