This happened to a friend of mine. No need to worry. She was put on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy and the baby was born healthy and mom is doing just fine.

The baby was not gaining weight quickly enough because there were problems with the nutrients being absorbed into the placenta.

Take it easy and rest as much as you can. Solicit help from family and friends. Try not to worry it will just put added stress on you and the baby.

Sounds like you are doing everything right!

I would try not to worry yet.
My nephew was not growing enough and they eventually put my sister in law in the hospital for steroids etc to strengthen the baby. Turned out the umbilical cord was too narrow. They induced her 6 weeks early and he ended up fine. They are really great with prenatal care nowadays.
If your Dr was seriously worried he would have put you in the hospital for 24hr fetal monitoring. He is being cautious, but he should have given you more information so you didn't worry so much. Call back and say that he made you anxious and you want him to explain things further. This is his job. They may have a nurse at his practice for this purpose too. If you are not reassured, definitely go to another Dr. for a second opinion, or a third. This is your right as a patient.
Good luck, and congratulations!

sometimes the placenta doesnt work properly and if it started to fail then the doctor would induce you,you have been given the best advice, bed rest is sometimes needed as well
