It makes me queasy knowing that people really believe that.
The lack of belief in the sciences, backed by tons of evidence, makes me worry about the state of this country.
Americans are, by and large, superstitious and scientifically illiterate.
Not to mention, the genealogy in another book doesn't even match!
'Splain that to me, Lucy!

What do you mean "knowing that people really believe that..."
The reason his geneology goes all the way back is to, show how old the earth is, and show he came through the right line, (his body did) and that he was the Christ (which jews do not admit by making silly arguments against it).
Why in the world would that *bother* someone about the Bible, I am seriously asking you this question, email me or add more on here, because I would like to know your reasons.
Thanks..
Jess
Ahhhh of course, so are you a christian or what?
Obviously if you are a christian you are NOT a young earth christian.
Ok, so let me tell you a little thing I found out about carbon dating, just for fun...
Carbon dating relies on the thought that the carbon levels have always been the same, if they weren't, carbon dating would be completely wrong.
Little fact number two...
In the Bible it says (although no one seems to focus on this)
that the earth was different back then, and that there was (this is a theory) a ring of water or ice surrounding the earth, in preperation for the flood. Now, if this were true, we would have all that water needed to flood the earth, and there would be a heck of a lot more pressure and air on the earth, making it easier for dinosaurs to live and also, the carbon levels would be - big time - different.
So, I don't think that the earth is millions of billions of years old... I think it's young, and I have NOT seen any conclusive evidence to the former, and I have seen the evidence.

And you question whether Jesus is the Son of God...pfft. Quit asking questions like this and just accept the fact that Jesus is God's Son. That God created the Earth. That Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Stop asking questions, you've heard all the answers you need to make a decision. Now just choose to believe or choose not to. Make a decision because you never know when your time on Earth will be up. Then you will have no more chances.

The Jews were into the genealogy big time.
One reason, though not the only reason, was they knew a Savior was coming, and they wanted to be THE family that produced him. Genealogy would prove according to the prophecies which gave details that THEIR child was THE one.
Jesus was not the one they expected or wanted.
Incidentally, both genealogies show His line for other reasons...it shows He was descended from David the King, and the legal rights as well.
If you read through the people named, you're going to find a few surprises. It is amazing who He chose.

If you don't believe this, why should it bother you! It's nothing to do with you, surely? If a person believes it, let them--it doesn't have to affect you at all.
Personally it doesn't bother me at all. Whether or not there were 75 literal generations between Adam and Jesus is neither here nor there. He still died on the Cross as a sacrifice for our sins--yours as well as mine. Whether or not you accept that sacrifice and live up to it, is up to you.

What exactly makes you queasy about knowing 75 generations of genealogy? I have family members who spend a lot of time researching our families genealogies - would that make you just as queasy?

I see you point, but I'm more amazed that the term "incest" doesn't jump off the pages of the bible thus:
Incest is defined as sexual intercourse between closely related persons. Virtually all societies have some form of incest avoidance. The incest taboo is one of the most common of all taboos. Most modern societies have legal or social restrictions on closely consanguineous marriages.Although not universal, incest constitutes a cultural taboo in most current nations and many past societies, with legal penalties in some places. In some societies, like Ancient Egypt, brother–sister, father–daughter and mother–son relations were practiced.
Which family members constitute those covered by the incest prohibition is determined by the society in which the persons live. Some societies consider it to include only those related by birth or those who live in the same household; other societies further include those related by adoption, marriage, or clan.
The term incest can include sexual activity between family members of either gender and can include family members of any age. When one of the family members involved is a minor, incestuous activity has also been called intrafamilial child sexual abuse.
The scientific rationale against incest is that inbreeding between close family members tends to produce mutant but bland, uninteresting people. The practice also is known for producing other undesirable defects such as water on the brain and nipples on the forehead. There is also vocal opposition from most ignorant people who register their opinion on the matter by simply vomitting.
Those who "don't see nuthin' wrong which it" claim that it strengthens genetic trends in the nuclear family, and reinforces evolutionary successes within the gene pool. Hence, those who practice incest today, contrary to popular taboos and morally-dogmatic stigmas, enjoy longer life, superior intelligence, and more vitality. Employers also claim that six fingered administrative assistants are more productive and that typing speeds in data entry clerks increase when two more fingers are added to the keyboard. Manicurists say such people are good for business as well.

Actually, it is reassuring.
The Jews have long held the hope a coming Messiah. Prophets stated in a variety of places how Messiah could be identified. One way was through Genealogy, so families went to great lengths to record their bloodlines from generation to generation.
Messiah was to be a son of David, (inheriting David's throne), therefore Messiah would be of the Tribe of Judah.
Jesus' lineage does not therefore bother Christians. It reassures us.

Its genealogy. I find it neither queasy nor inspiring. It just *is*.
[edit]
Your question was about genealogy, not about creationism. Just because one can trace ancestry back to Adam, doesn't mean one is proving creationism; it just means that they stopped at Adam for whatever reason.
