Should you draw a weapon a fire it at a lost child that comes up behind you quietly looking for help?!

I'm glad the case was dismissed as the officer should have announced his presence...in my opinion...but maybe you should be a bit more careful before you start swinging!

So, the case was dismissed. That's your answer. No reason why you should be forced to react positively to such an incident. Obviously, the court thought you had a reason to react suspiciously, and you did.

My guess would be exactly what you described -- arrested but later, charges dismissed when prosecutors realized what happened.

I can see them booking you, and also later dismissing the charge.
