Catalina dear you live in a dream world as far as sanding the floor .........that is a job for a proffesional if you don't believe me go get a book from the library telling how to do it you'll see
as for the painting if you don't know what tools to use you probably should hire a painter
I charge 1.50$ a squqre foot to paint an empty house LABOR ONLY
2000 square foot=3000$
includes walls
ceilings
trim and doors
good luck

You should be able to rent a sander for your floor, and the clerk should be able to answer any questions you have about the machine.

You'll want a claw hammer to get the nails out, and you'll want a scraper and some mud (yes, it really is called that) to patch the holes. And you'll want sandpaper to sand the patched spots smooth after they dry.

For painting the walls, you'll want to wash the walls down first: Dust and cobwebs really do a number of paint. You will want a painter's tray, a roller brush or two, a 'regular' brush to edge in around tighter spaces, and painter's tape or masking tape to tape off areas where you don't want paint to go. You will also want a tarp for your floor, and you might even consider taping newspaper over your windows. And you will want a painter's mask: The fumes from some paints can be a problem otherwise.

Depending on the color you're using, you may want to use a primer before you paint.

Most of this stuff should be available either in a hardware store or a home improvement store.

Another thing: There are tons of do-it-yourself books about repairs such as you describe. You might want to get one for future reference. Or you can take a look at DIY.Com. Good luck!
