KHARTOUM, Sudan — A 7-year-old Sudanese boy is defending the British teacher accused of insulting Islam by naming a teddy bear Muhammad, Reuters reported.

The boy said Gilliam Gibbons, 54, asked him, as part of a school assignment, what he wanted to call the stuffed animal and he said, 'Muhammad,' after HIS name, Reuters reported.

Duh?

Why the outrage ?

Thank GOD that I live in USA. A wonderful freedom we have but it is be earned and it is not really free. Our men and women join the services to keep our country free. Things like the religions freaks out over simple little things and cause such an uproar is really beyond me. I pity the people that lives in that kind of life. I feel bad for that lady as well. She doesn't deserve the punishment.

Given how backward Islam is, I am kind of surprised they allow Teddy Bears at all. I know they are not allowed in Saudi Arabia.

When I first heard the story, I did not know that plenty of Muslim children were named Muhammad. Now I find it even harder to understand. Perhaps they feel that it amounts to making a graven image of Muhammad, who is not supposed to be depicted at all, let alone as a children's toy.

It's all a tempest in a teapot, except that the poor teacher is actually being prosecuted.

This is only one of the things that can happen when a religion is given political/legislative power. It happened with the Catholic church, and it is happening now in islam.
This is why the U.S. congress wrote against establishing a state religion. They knew history could repeat itself.

Because the teddy bear is cute, cuddly, and makes you smile. Islamic governments aren't cute, cuddly, and no one is allowed to smile.
