I got a perm on September 14, so it's been over 2 months since I got it. I have noticed a lot of loss of curl in my hair and my hair is thin and fine and doesn't hold curl very well to begin with. I was always told that my hair would never hold a perm, but I wanted to do it anyway. Is this amount of time fairly normal?

Perms do gradually 'relax' but you shouldn't have complete loss of a perm until it's cut out. "Thin and fine" hair should have no problem holding a perm. Take a look at the shampoo etc that you're using. Some will actually weigh down a perm like Pantene and some other over the counter Products. They cause a build-up on the hair that makes the strands heavier. Try products from the salon such as Matrix Essentials "Perm Fresh" or Sally Beauty Supply carries a product line by Quantum, who actually manufactures perms.

Also, Did you love your perm the day you had it done? Typically perms are tighter the day you get it then it will be in a few weeks. Your stylist should allow for 'relaxation' of the curls when choosing the best rods to use.

So the rule of thumb is that if you love your perm right after, you'll hate it later because they do relax and loosen. It should always appear tighter than you want it to the first day so that when it loosens it's perfect.

Get a trim...you'll find the curls will bounce back again!
Usually it can last up to 6 months...if its a good perm!
