this site might help. Just select top brands like Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji, and Panasonic

you have all great answers, but when you find one, read the customer reviews on Amazon. I find them invaluable.

Good quality photos and excellent snapshots with the Canon 500 series. Great price and it has the definite advantage- for me- that they have a viewfinder as well. Other cameras are good as well but sometimes, particularly in the sun you can not see anything on the screen. Canon 540 and up I believe have a 2,5 inch screen which is good size.

The Fuji S series like the S700, S6000,S8000, S9000 and the new IS-1, my wife own's a S5000 (it's about 4 years old and it's been replaced by a few models).

Canon offers some nice DSLRs like the EOS Rebel XT (8MP) or the XTi (10MP). I own a XTi and I love it.

Kodak or Sony are both good. Buy one with 5+ megapixels for best pictures.

If you just use it for basic things, Sony Cybershot DSC-W200! It comes with 12 megapixels!
