I believe in myself.

do you have to believe in something as a substitute to god. God, to many, and the explanations of him are unsatisfactory, flawed, and in some instances outrageously myth-like. A rejection of this does not necessarily mean some form of substitute is necessary. God acts as a creation story, so perhaps a belief in some other creation story based on science or philosophy. Or perhaps an acceptance that given our current knowledge, our origins cannot be explained. That could be a belief.

All atheism tells you is that someone doesn't believe in a deitiy or deities. Beyond that as individuals atheists can believe in a whole range of things like justice, equality, family, love, some an afterlife (many Buddhists are atheists), some are humanists, some are nihlists, etc... Its a diverse group with many individual beliefs but just not a belief in a God.

Well, myself, not as a god though. My life will be what I make of it and so will everyone else's. It's all up to me to do what's right and I don't look to anyone else to authorize my decisions. And I also believe in my fellow humans, and hold out hope that they will come to realize that their life is theirs and not gods. And hopefully together we can all make this world a little better to live in.

I believe in taking responsibility for my actions and also that everyone else should take responsibility for their own actions.
