Im visiting America in Jan for a few months, and i was wondering do you need a prescrption from the doctor for birth control pills or can you buy them over the counter in a pharmacy! .. im from Ireland and you need a prescription! im just asking because il have to find a doctor when i get there to get prescrptions from! (or will i)

Yes you do need a prescription. America isn't like other countries, like Canada where you can buy codein over the counter. When you get here, just go to an ER and speak with a doctor. If you try to make an appointment with a local doctor, you won't get in right away. If you go to a walk in clinic, then you will get to see a doctor that day. If I were you, I would choose the walk in clinic. Welcome to America and I hope you enjoy your stay.

Birth control meds are prescription only in the U.S. There is a movement to make them behind the counter. You'll have to find an American doctor to write the prescription for you. Medicine is a lot more expensive in the U.S. The cheapest BCPs without insurance are about $25 per month and the most expensive are about $60 per month.
