Sure I think he would still be alive & probably still racing. He certaintly wouldn't have let Junior walk away from DEI, but then again DEI would be a much better company without the wicked step-monster running it.

I have no way of knowing that. I honestly don't think NASCAR would have done all of the things they have done in regards to safety until a "big name" was killed though. It just so happened that it was Dale Earnhardt. I wasn't glad to see him go (I am/was a Dale fan), but his unfortunate accident has brought safety to the forefront. Had it been some unknown rookie, I'm not so sure that we would have seen all of the changes that followed Dale's death.
Everybody meets there maker some day though. Seeing as how he had to one day die, it seems the way he went was perfect for him. The last lap at the track that haunted him his entire career and the most popular race of the season.
RIP Dale.

Isn't this like asking if the Eagles would have won the Superbowl if McNabb wasn't puking in the huddle during the game?
There's really no way to know. If he were alive, he would be running DEI from the top and not driving. I think 2001 would have been his last season as a driver. He did something uncharacteristic in that race, protecting the lead for Michael Waltrip instead of going for the win.

Yes, he would have retired and he would be running DEI and they would not have ended up having two horrible seasons, and Jr would still be at DEI...But unfortunately he was taken from us way to soon.. R.I.P. great one..
Go Dale Jr & Hms in 2008

Yes. NASCAR finally woke up and made safety a priority. Had Earnhardt been wearing the Hans device he would be alive today but he was less concerned about his own safety because he thought the devices hindered his driving.

uh
yeah
And Earnhardt would not have survived if he had been wearing the HANS device, his seatbelts didn't function properly and he had his seat altered, it just would have snapped his neck.

if he had not crashed, more than likely he would be alive and none of the junk that has happened to DEI would be happening
