It sounds like he's not ready to have you interacting with his family and friends.
You and him together are one thing, but having you around family and friends take things to a whole 'nother level.
Having you by his side at his dinner party would be making a statement: You're his and he's yours. Maybe he's not ready for that just yet.
You'll never know until you ask him.

It may be that he was planning a smaller way for you to meet the family. He sounds very nice and he seems very considerate. If he shows this much consideration for you, I'm sure he shows the same towards his family and friends. He may just want to introduce you to several smaller groups of family and friends at small dinners or after work drinks instead. He seems like a very good man and a good catch. Give him the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe he's ashamed to be going out with you? Are you much younger? Maybe his wife is going to be there? He has a past thats probably complicated. If he is any kind of decent, things will work out, give him the space he wants

You do not say how old you are!
Maybe he is self conscious about introducing someone new to his established family and friends, maybe he thinks it is too soon.
Perhaps he has been down this path before!
Maybe it was not a good experience last time!
Give him time!

It's only been a month! I think your getting serious about the relationship too fast. Men are.. "complex" creatures. He probably didn't tell his family he was dating anyone, or maybe he's simply not ready to have you meet his family.

He is not sure that his family will accept you, or his ex will be there, and he does not want any problems in front of all of the kids.
It is too early to be expecting anything yet anyway!!!
