Is it because of your friend, family or your own will?

Interesting! So far nobody mention that they start golfing because their company tell them to do so. I guess Golf is a sport now rather than part of corporate activity.

My dad and I started playing golf at the same time in 1960. I was 11 and he was 42. Someone built a nine hole course in our area so we went. It was magic.

My Dad was in a 9 hole league once a week after work. When I was about 9 or 10 I used to caddy for him. He taught me basic things although he was not an excellent golfer by any means. By the time I was 12 I started playing with him on weekends, then at 14 I started caddying a private club which is where I really learned about the game watching all kinds of swings (good and bad) and their results. I'm 57 now and still play 100+ rounds a year.

I started golf when I was six. My father and both grandfathers played.
I was given a six iron with a timber shaft for Christmas. I still remember flailing away and missing most of the time. I eventually would hit a couple along the ground and then that one shot that would take off and go what seemed a mile (hey I was six). That one good shot had me addicted ever since.
In my 20+ years since I have had a hole in one on a par 4 when 13, finished even par once and have been 3 under standing on the 11th of a championship course (don't asked what happened after that).

I actually have a cool story:

Okay, around 2 years ago my borther and I were having a sleepover at a cousin's house. He had a coupon to Blockbuster for a video game rent one, get one free.

We always play sports games, and so we got a hockey game, and then couldn't decide on the other one. We saw Tiger Woods 2005, and we decided that we will try it out.

So, after playing that game, by coincidence, we had to go and pick up another one of my cousins (who's an avid golfer) from the driving range. I tried hitting a few shots, and I hit them pretty good, and then I was hooked!

I was always after my parents to get me a golf set so I could start out.

I learned all the rules and the terms and everything by playing Tiger Woods '05.

And the rest is history.

Now, 2 years later, I am a 0.8 handicap.

Golf is a great father son activity. I will take my boys.
Golf teaches patients, coordination, social skills, humility, love for the outdoors.
It is a gentleman’s sport.
Being good at it takes athletic ability.

I started after playing the Tiger woods game of 07. I thought that if someone could spend that much time making a game look that good, I had to see what the real course looked like. Haven't played the video game since.

My son, age 7, wanted to take up golf so I enrolled him in a class.

Of course he wants to go out and play so I buy a set of cheap clubs so I can take him out to pitch and putt golf courses. Next thing I know I like the game and I'm taking classes (May of this year).

In order for him to continue with golf, I of course had to take it up myself. I mean, who else is going to take him out on the course if it isn't me?

7 months later and a couple thousand spent on clubs, clothes, shoes, balls and lessons, I'm hooked big time!

I went along with a friend who had been playing for awhile. I was just going to drive the cart. I loved the peace and quite and started lessons 2 weeks later. I am still trying to beat her or at least break 100.

I've always wanted to play golf, but everybody wanted me to play cricket or rugby.

After a few years of saving, I bought my own bag of clubs and away i went. =)
