Your CRT television will not be capable of showing any HD at all.

Although the screen may give you an excellent picture the electronics behind it will not be designed to meet the international HD standard.
As there are only half a dozen or so HD channels broadcast at the moment (and none are on Freeview so you have to pay an expensive premium for them anyway) that won't be great loss to you.

However, if it has a SCART socket (and I believe that all televisions built within the last 20 have years have at least 1) the you can successfully connect an external Freeview box and (with a scart combiner box) a Sky box. Then you can enjoy all the digital channels.

Forget it. And be VERY careful with CRT, apart from lethal voltages all over the place, they are vacuum tubes, one careless move and they IMPLODE, concentrating shattered glass which can then be projected with the force of an arrow. Tubes, EHT transformers and other components that might cause a problem like this are very expensive, and they require proper resetting of all voltages and frequencies on replacement or they can burn out again very quickly. It is generally cheaper to buy a new TV. And be VERY aware that you can get a lethal shock from a tube that has been stored for months.

tube tvs will be fine until - they channels switch to a high-def
Picture then there might be compatibility problems

LCD screens with or without HD can be bought with Freeview built in. Depending how big a screen you want, the cost isn't that bad, Plasma is an expensive option,

But LCD screens are becoming the norm. . Some places have stopped selling Tube tvs because of their bulk and lack of popularity

prices start about a a hundred thirty for a small LCD with freeview built in,.. Christmas and January sales, should have some bargins

BUT THERE IS NOT REAL NEED TO CHANGE YOUR TV IF YOU ARE HAPPY WITH IT

A Freeview box can be got for as little as twenty quid ( for a really basic one) - all your tv needs to have is a scart, to use one

Digital TV is not related to flat screen or plasma or CRT.

Get a CRT. You'll be just fine. Even if it doesn't have "Digital TV" built in, you can always buy a Freeview box.

TVs produced from about 4 years ago and on are all designed to have digital tuners inside them..so when the analog TV goes off, yes you will still be able to see over the air transmissions..

although i would advise against getting anything other then high definition TV as that's the way things are headed.. and youll miss out

You can buy ANY CRT tube TV set, and it's all HD.....but ask the SALESMAN, so that they don't slip an SD TV into the truck.....

They ARE supposed to warn you if you purchase an SDTV set....either verbally or with a warning sticker on the box....
