I have a new cell number, about two months old. Within the past week someone who obviously knew the last person to have the same number has tried to contact me. To anyone this has ever happened to, what did you do? How often does this happen? I have no desire to play pranks on this person, as she contacted me innocently enough, wanting me to go on a blind-date with her friend but how do I break it to her that this 'great' friend of hers, didn't let her know that he'd changed his number?

And yes I have already sent a text stating that, I'm not who you think I am.

Sounds to me you are considering taking her up on the blind date, otherwise you would just send that person a text message explaining that you are not who they think you are...

If you have already texted her saying the number is yours now not the other person's then that should be enough. If she thinks it is the other guy playing a joke or something and calls again, just answer the phone and she will hear another voice and then know that the # was changed to a different person.

I'd simply tell her, if she calls again, that you're not the guy who used to have the number. You're not responsible for the previous holder of the number, even though it's nice that you want to break the news gently. As is usually the case, honesty is the best policy.

just tell her, you dont know the circumstances surrounding him changing his number, maybe he got a new job and changed phones as it was a work phone, he lost his phone so rather than spend $300 on a new phone, he decided to change providers, he dropped the phone in the toilet and changed phone #'s ..... maybe he was getting alot of harassing calls from girls and changed the number.... i would just be honest with whomever calls....

if she really bother you just tell her the truth.so call her and say that to her.and if she insist to call you that mean she like your voice then you don't need me to tell you what to do.right ?
