He was a major part of your life. There is an emptiness when he died. It is overwhelming and takes a while to get your bearings back. This is normal. It doesn't feel that way because you are not used to having this happen to you. Talk to people who you are close to. Find someone that it is okay to show your feelings. Think about him, talk about him and in time it doesn't hurt as much. You will not forget him, but it won't be as painful.

I haven't lost a brother but have lost my mom, father-in-law and many close family members
My husband has lost his sister so I have seen it from that side
death hurts so much I think because we miss the person we love, we still need them and were not ready to not have them in our lives
many times I know something happens and I reach for the phone needing to talk to mom only to remember shes not there to give me her advice any more and I most go on with out her and its hard
the day to day of not being able to share with them, touch them or just being able to know their only a phone call away
can bring tears and great sorrow
its been 6yrs since mom passed and its easier but the pain never goes away completely
a person must try to put the happier thoughts first and the bad ones away till that's mostly what you remember.
and in time a person can recover enough to go on till God brings us all home together again.
This is how I survive it.

we can all tell you personal stories of loss, and how they tore our lives apart. Loosing anyone hurts, to old age, to accidents, to anything. Someonee being in your life and then not is emotionally painful to everyone. You feel the absense you miss the interaction. When it's a close family member you hate the thought of never seeing them again.
Not that it's any consolation, but the fact that your hurting means you loved him well. some are numb to loss b/c they never had a good relationship,
Cherish the memories that you had. Hold them close to your heart. And remember to toast the influences he had on you.
