Remove you gloves while you are seated at the table and tuck them into your evening or day bag. Never eat with gloves on, they have touched bannisters, door knobs etc so are at this stage not clean.

When you get up to dance you may put your gloves back on. Gloves are worn for fashion as much as for protection these days. Don't shake hands with anyone with your gloves on, slip your right hand out of your glove and hold it in your left for introductions (they are deemed not clean).

Your gloves must be spotless. If you happen to get a mark on them take them off and hide them. Dirty gloves are for gardening.

The only person permitted to keep her gloves on at introductions is HRH, Queen Elizabeth II. Everyone else, no.

I thought they were removed along with your jacket and hat(if you have one) or just jacket. The only time the gloves should be worn at the table while consuming anything is when it is tea during the daytime

No, you always remove them before eating. Very bad form to keep them on.

You remove them before you sit down, or immediately afterwards. You do not eat with them on.

A lot of so-called etiquette confuses people because they think it's some weird ritual with a lot of secrets.

Most 'etiquette' is basic common sense and concern for others.

So, ask yourself ~ how could I eat with gloves on?

And take them off.

Cheers :-)

you always remove your gloves when you are seated..... it is customary. to leave your gloves on is an insult to the host as if to say, the flatwear or glasswear isnt clean.....
