Okay! So! Hi, I'm Sam, and I'm trying to get into the whole Japanese style eating and stuffies, so perhaps some of you guys can help me:
I'm getting a bento box soon, I know how to use chopsticks, and all that good stuff.
I even have this little rice ball maker that makes the original triangular shape rice balls, which I thought was super cool.
Anyways!
I need to know: Is american white rice the same as the Japanese sticky rice?

Please help!

Also, if you know of any food sites on what to make for a Japanese style lunch, then please do list them! If you know any recipies yourself, then also list a few if you could! Anything there is to making everything cute and traditional at the same time, tell me, I'm dying to know. <---(No, not really dying... )

Anyways, thanks for any help,
~!~Sam~!~

American white rice is pretty good. It is at least comparable with Asian rice. You can find recipes on line pretty much by searching Google.

Many of the best Japanese foods are essentially adaptations of Chinese, Mongolian, and even British dishes (Shrimp Tempura is a Japanese variation on Fish and Chips) and you can make them according to your taste.

Invest in a good wok or pan, as this is an essential element in cooking. A rice cooker would also be good.

American white rice comes in two kinds, long grain and short grain. Long grain rice is not the same as Japanese white rice, short grain rice is the same as Japanese white rice.

When you buy white rice in supermarket, just make sure it's short grain.

Uh, most Onigiri ('rice balls') are hand-shaped; but anyways...
Japanese sticky rice is pretty much the same, except they put rice vinegar on it when it's hot, then fan it to cool it down.
They dont ONLY eat sticky rice tho... try finding 'furikake', its rice seasoning to put on otherwise unseasoned rice. ^.^
