My dad was a Navy Seal in the Vietnam War. I am 23 and since I have grown up he has talked to me more about his experiences there. He lost a lot of close friends there, and fought for his and others' lives on a daily basis. When he came home to the states a lady spit on his face and called him a "baby killer" I know attitudes have changed in the present day and people are more careful to criticize politicians' decisions instead of the soldiers fighting, but I still think that it is hard for my dad to feel proud sometimes because of the whole negative atmosphere surrounding the Vietnam War. I want to get him something maybe that he could put in his office at work or keep at home that shows him how proud I am of him and how proud America is of him and others like him during that period of time. Any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it.

I like Big Red's link... one other thing you can do is make him a picture box or some call it a shaow box... it's like a deep frame that you can afix patches, insignias and ribbons to.

Here's what you do... purchase one of those and start looking online for items from his command in Nam. You could contact his team and I can guarantee they will help you find items not readily available online... most teams have "stores".

If you run into trouble, email me but do some work of your own first and let me know what you can't find. You can get his ribbons from his DD214 which I'm sure he would let you look at.

I remember how the guys were treated. It sucked. I will say "thank you" to you for realizing how great your dad is and was. Thank him--from an old woman--who understands. I wrote to some of those guys. Had no family there. The only thing I can think of is an American flag--maybe not a traditional one but something unique. Would have no idea where you could find something like that. I wonder if a Veterans Administration would have any ideas. Just a thought. Good Luck.

I'm making a shadow box with my father's ribbons, medals, etc. Remind him, should the topic come up, that what he did allows ignorant ppl. to do disgraceful things. He fought for our way of life, and should be proud of that. My dad was a Cpt. and experienced the same kinda things. It's shamefull, and heart-breaking. HOOYAH!

There were a always few ignorant Americans that were so very rude to our troops returning home from the Vietnam war, that become so unpopular. Please tell him this older American is proud him and his brave service to our country. Feel sorry for the Vietnamese people also, they lost so much too.
