I think its a wonderful idea. My suggestion would be to have her with you, for every 1 toy she keeps you should donate 2, or whatever system you prefer. Let her have a say in what stays and what goes. Make sure you leave enough room for her new toys. My fiances has a 5 year old little brother and he has so many toys that he doesn't appreciate anything, its quite sad. If she has less she will appreciate her new things more and play with them more. Also encourage/make her keep her room clean, it will be a behavior you will appreciate when she is older. Good Luck
Edit: if she is aprehensive about getting rid of toys or just flat out doesn't want to, explain to her that they are going to other children that have no toys, or you could put the on the porch or in your living room and tell her that santa or the "toy fairy" is going to come get them to give them to other children, and then you could leave her a little something for being so generous. Good Luck

No that's fine. I get the same way with my kids toys.
So every couple of months (when I'm about to have a break down because the toys are taking over the house!!) I get my girls (6&4) to help me tidy up their toy room and the outgrown or not played wih anymore toys are washed and given to charity.
I let my girls pick and choose which ones they keep and which they give away. That way not only are we culling the toy population in our house but the girls love knowing that by giving away toys they no longer need or like they are giving a special toy (because they loved it for x amount of time) to a child that isnt as fortunate as them.
PS. Please dont throw them out/give them away without your daughters knowledge. My mother tried this when I was little and I nearly died because she had taken my most sentimental toys. But luckily I found them and put them all back in my room!!

I wouldn't throw the toys away, I would either give them away to a goodwill store, OR keep them so your future kids can enjoy the same toys. You can also keep them till your kids are all grown up and your grandchildren can have the same toys. Also the toys may be worth something in a few years. I still have a few of my toys when I was a kid. ONe toy I have is going to be 38 years old this January, and it is older then I am.

Before Christmas every year since my kids have been around 3, we make a family time, and go through their toys together. I explained to the kids that we are taking some of their old ones to charity for kids who don't have any, and they think its great. They sometimes even give up one of their 'better' toys so someone else can have some fun with them.

Sit down with her and ask her if there are toys she dosen't like that she would like to give to little girls who don't have any toys. Then go through the stuff and put them in a box. But let her pick. That will be better for her. But don't throw anything away i hate throwing away of anything be cause EVERYTHING HAS A NICE MEMOREY. Oh and that way she won't through a fit when she can't find something Good luck Try not to buy to much stuff at christmas. that will help not to undue your work happy holidays

Let her help you sort out the toys, then donate the ones that are in good condition to charity. Explain that she will be helping kids who do not have toys. Then stop buying so many and ask family members to do the same. Maybe for Xmas they can chip in to buy her one big toy such as a nice toy kitchen.

Do not throw the old toys away, give it to charity. There are children in the world, that will play with the toys no matter how filthy the toys are. As long as the toys are in good condition, you can donate it to charity or welfares.

Don't give it to charity they throw the toys away after a few weeks if no buys them I used to work in a charity shop as volunteer and it upsets me that wen it goes to the bin it goes to the incinerator where they burn up I really have this feeling for toys if running a charity shop I would not throw it in the bin after a few weeks I would put it on eBay then if it does not get sold on there I would take it back to the charity shop one more month the throw them

Don't do it on the sly. Use this as an opportunity to teach your child about the value of giving. Tell her that at Christmas time there are boys and girls who don't get any toys from Santa or their family because they have had a bad time. Tell them that if she could give them some of her toys that she has 'outgrown' then she could make some people happy.
Use it as a lesson about giving. If she resists, you can use the argument that 'you are bigger now and these toys are for younger children and not big girls.'
Good luck.
