I doubt that this is any indication of the Red Star rising. China has touted a military that relies on equipment the U.S. has considered outdated for 25 years. Britain, Australia, Israel, Japan, and indeed most U.S. allies have shown no fear of any uprising from China because a war with China would not be ground-based. The U.S. and its allies have such an incredible advantage in Air Force and Naval air power that small spats like this only work against China.

I read about this on the web (see link below)... they denied you initially, but changed their minds. But you were already steaming home, so you just didn't turn back.
Why they denied you in the first place? The Chinese government wouldn't comment, but there was some speculation that it was a political gesture stemming from our aid to Taiwan and Bush's meeting with the Dali Lama. Maybe it's just because Sailors have generally TORN UP HK when we've visited (I've been there a dozen times on three different carriers). Lots of drunken incidents.
Who knows... it's all political games. I just feel sorry for all the families that flew over there to spend Thanksgiving with their Sailors only to watch you sail on by.

Not sure what your question is. If you are referring to the fact the China acting is a little bolder by refusing us docking privileges, probably. That is within there right. Think we would give a carrier from China docking privileges to dock in San Francisco or any other port for that matter. I think not. This is going to be China's century whether we like it or not. This is something we are going to have to get use to.

Last time I checked they owned Hong Kong and can do as they like with it.
As its one of the worlds busiest seaports, they probably didn't need the hassle of an Aircraft Carrier in their waters.
