We recently invited my cousin to visit canada under a Temporary Visa, we sent her a letter of invitation and all the necessary documents. At the end of her stay, she decided not leave. What are the consequence of that on our end. She said she will apply for a humatarian status so she could stay. Help

humanitarian status? there's no such thing as that for canada. if she meant refugee... she wouldn't be able to get one since there is no conflict in the philippines that marks her as a refugee. unless she is facing the death penalty in the philippines... she has no grounds for an immediate visa in canada.

if you are helping her... giving her a place to stay and whatnot... then you could either be fined or jailed. depends on what the judges feel like giving as a punishment. if you're a permanent resident and not a citizen, you could even be deported.

encourage her to go back to the philippines and go through the legal way of getting into canada. if she is stubborn, then i suggest for your family to stay away from her. your status or even criminal record could be jeopardy.

if you refuse to help her... she might want to go back to the philippines since she can't get a job nor rent a place without proper documentation of her status in canada.

i know it would be hard since ang mga pinoys, they like to do the guilt trip thing when it comes to helping family members. don't take the bait. kayo lang ang magkaproblems niyan.

Thats neat. In the states I think you need to answer all types of question and go though a whole process. I really have no idea but its probably not going to be easy.

I don't know what you mean by "humanitarian status" If you mean refugee claimant, she's going to have really hard time demonstrating eligibility for that. Getting refugee status in Canada is not as easy as people think.
