My school is very Christian, though is still public. My science teacher is very Christian. We were talking about fossils and how old the Earth is (4.6 billion years). One kid raised his hand and said "I thought the Earth was 6,000 years old". My teacher looked at him with a confused look, at just continued on. It's obvious that my teacher believes the Earth is 4.6 billion years, same with everyone else in the class.Except that kid.

I noticed that some people on here do to. How can you with all the evidence we have that tells us otherwise? I believe in a God and evolution. I believe the Goddess made it happen.

Because human nature works this way: "If you don't understand it, you don't want to take the time to learn about it so you walk away and say... Nah, this doesn't work."

The answer above me? C'mon man... Understand carbon dating before you give a lame imaginary answer like that.

The answer below me? That dot org site is a religious Christian site disguised as a science site.

The next argument below that is not an argument of impirical measurable and irrefutable science. You are quoting a mass hysteria called "mythological dogma" from the Greeks which can be further traced back to Ejyptology.

Very simple, we choose to acknowledge the Invisible Characteristics of God that are clearly seen in Creation. You and all those like you close your eyes to it.

Take 4.6 billion years and see if a pile of sand can or cosmic soup can develop into anything complex. Evolution has proven it is not possible.

Evolution has no scientifically observable, or repeatable explanation for the emergence of complex organisms. This is something that Evolution has proven. But in the landmark trials pitting Intelligent Design vs Evolution, the expert Evolution witnesses said, "While we cannot show how complex organisms evolved, we certainly HOPE that it will someday be discovered".

That is what Faith is. Evolutionists have faith (hope) that their theory will be proven correct. They certainly repeat the lie so often that many believe.

But a wise man once said, "You can fool some of the people all of the time. You can fool most of the people some of the time. But you cannot fool all of the people all of the time".

Good for that kid. I am glad that someone in your class in not playing the fool.

It is an estimate based on biblical accounts.
Science concepts are saying billions because of half-life computation of decaying matters.Accordingly, if A --> B and the rate at which B is formed from A is known, then we can estimate the time at which A starts to form B.
Of course the assumption that at the beginning only A existed remains a question.

But God might havecreated those decayed matters, thus miscalculating the age of the earth.
God created man not from infancy so this breaks the chicken-egg dilemna. God created chicken to lay eggs for continuity.
Similarly, God created decayed materials together with the pure material in order to proceed decomposition.

Talking about the creation, I will try to give an example to picture things more clearly. Evidence said that the earth is a blah-blah-blah million years old. But the Bible described the earth is only 6,000 something years old, right?

Now, back to the creation days, when God created Adam and Eve, did He created them as babies or as adults? When God created all the animals, did He created them as baby animals or as matured ones? What about the plants?

My point is, God is able to do even the most impossible thing. If He could create something regardless of age, why couldn't He created a planet which age is a few million years old?

I remember when my professor of science in high school made this big speech about not wanting to offend people by suggesting that the Earth was billions of years old and that human beings developed through a process of evolution.

I had been studying science since I was seven and the first thought that came to my mind was "what kind of idiot would dispute such a thing? And why are we talking about religion in a science class?"

OK tell me how a man can carbon date something to find out how old it is if there isn't anything that old that exists.
By lying, man has deceived man since Cane killed Able, and will continue to do so until the Perfect One comes and He will make all things clear.
If I tell u that I am 55 billion yrs old, yet I have a birth certificate that states I am 55, what then, just because I am calling my self a scientist doesn't mean I know everything.
There is a scientist his name is Dr Tom McCall, he has proof that carbon dating is flawed.

PERSONALLY

i believe the earth is as old as all that (4.6 bil yrs)

and humans might only be 6,000 yrs old

we were placed here as an experiment

& so far things have been going well

but lots of folks are starting to question things

or simply dont believe them at all

like creation & such, or other religious ideas in general

but to each his own you know.

the kid when he's old enough may come to his own conclusions about the earth, its ihabitants & their respective origins. but for now it's perfectly legal for his parents to teach him whatever they want him to believe, ie brainwash him.

however teachers are only permitted to teach from certain approved curricula that teaches "scientifically proven facts" & all that. unless they have a non-state accredited school. then they can teach whatever they want

but the credits you earn there won't necessarily "get you anywhere in life" so to speak, if no one recognizes the school as a legit operation

i digress

i don't know how people believe the earth is 6,000 yrs b/c i dont believe it myself.

however i believe stuff other folks dont like, i believe i had an alien contact me. well no duh, no one else is gonna believe me they didnt see her too.

so whatever anyone believes

as long as it makes them happy i guess & they don't physically harm me then we're all ok.

Evolution is how the Earth Goddess Gaia gave birth to life on this planet.

How can people believe any of the things they believe that don't make sense? Usually it's because someone told them bad information and they never questioned it. Too many people walk around taking as fact someone else's conjecture which was based on someone else's conjecture to begin with. That's why the beliefs of most Christians have little to do with what's actually in the bible.

Stick to your beliefs. The people who believe in the literal words of the bible are very easily led. But don't blame the kid who believed the earth is as the bible says. He is probaly just influenced too much by his parents. Explain Goddess :)

Without going into great detail the reason why the earth is really only 6000 years old is because the methods that scientists use to determine the age of fossils and such is flawed.
