I think my dog got knocked up this holiday weekend (I left her in the care of my boyfriend) with the expectation of getting her spayed when I got back from the holiday weekend...Is it too late to get a doggie day after pill or is it possible to term the pregnancy? My fear is that my baby won't survive giving birth, and I do not want any puppies...When is it too late to term a dog preganacy?? She's a 5lb Shih tzu.

Haters & Pessimistics need not respond...

Thanks! :oD

You can have her spayed right away regardless if she is preg. The vet will charge you an extra fee for aborting any product of conception. Its better to go ahead with the spaying instead of waiting to see if she is preg. She'll be spayed either way.

There is what's called a "mismate" shot, but it's not always effective and is too costly for the chances that it'll fail.

If you were going to have her spayed anyhow, now is the time to do it. It's likely what your vet would reccomend, rather than the mismate. At this early stage, the risk would be lower than if she were further along. If the potential father dog is much larger, or the size is unknown, you could very well end up with a dangerous situation for your dog.

I suggest getting her spayed right away, that wouldn't be good if your baby died due to the puppies being too big.

I have a Shih Tzu as well, adorable dogs, and I love them to death.

There is no such thing as a mornign after pill for a dog. The only true fix is to have her spayed. I would attempt to have it perfomred this week or next, before puppies begin to develop, because this runs less risk fot teh procedure. how old is she?

Just keep the appointment for the spay surgery. If the dog is found to be pregnant, it can be dealt with at that time. If you suspect that's the case, please be sure to tell your vet ahead of time.

Go ahead and have her spayed as planned. That will terminate the pregnancy.

You should ask your boyfriend. If he is the father I think he should have a say if he wants the ugly puppies or not.
